Took such a steep decline over the last 2 years.

Steep decline? 45 points, 38 points, 38 points, last 3 seasons, good on D, great on the dot. there is more to this story because Vermette's production is fine.

Theres a log jam at Center in Arizona. no point in paying a guy 3.25 (or something close to that) million to play on the third or fourth line. My guess is something bigger is brewing but if its just wanting Strome and Dvorak to make the team out of camp that would make sense too.

Doubt it because he could just walk away from it, Without the Yotes buying him out. There has to be more to the story then we know.

Are the Coyotes a budget team?

They shave off about 2M from their payroll this season with a buyout. If they desperately need to free up money in order to make a trade or sign an extension, this makes sense.

At first glance, it is surprising that they couldn't trade Vermette, but when you consider the cap aspect it might make sense. If ARZ's motivation was to shed salary, trading Vermette would only be possible if there is a team out there with 4M in cap space who wanted to take him without having to send back any cap in the deal. Almost every team in the league is tight right now so it was probably impossible to find someone to take on a 4M 3C.

any time you set up an arbitration hearing, you get a buyout window for 48 hours a couple of days after you settle your last case.

Leafs have a window that started today, and coyotes yesterday.

Isn't the buyout window closed?

maybe they had a window open due to an arbitration???

also to that previous post by someone else, he would not need to be protected in expansion. I hope the Oilers claim him, even at his 3.75 cap hit. Would be better on the PP than Letestu (who we only put on for faceoffs), and a good depth center.

Unless he refuses waivers due to the NMC. If I were him I would refuse then sign where I want.

Yup because Detroit had one as well started on Saturday and ends today and obviously Holland decided not to use his on either Howard or Ericsson.

Oilers can take the chance no one claims him at 3.75 letting him become a UFA.
Then Edmonton can sign him cheaper.

This is ****ing weird. I wouldn't mind the Kings taking a stab at him to take the pressure off of our rookie 3C's.

Vermette has a nmc. Doesn't he have to agree to be waived?

I do feel like there is something that is going on that is not being told to us.
