Nothing, as he has no real power. Every major decision is made by Natale and Bibic.
TDL of 2023You have to trade Matthews, Marner and maybe Nylander before July 1, 2023 if they don't have new deals because the first two have a NMC and Nylander has a M-NTC that begin on that date.
He's a figurehead because neither Bell nor Rodgers want to be chair of the board so one can't appear more powerful than the other. Bell and Rogers control the board and have a contract where they have to vote in unison (so all board issues are resolved backroom before an official vote). So, Larry and his 2 board seats essentially have no real power. He can push his ideas and make suggestions, but at the end of the day it's up to the Rogers and Bell votes.Perhaps I was wrong, but it's my understanding that he is still the CotB.
He's never ever been shy about intercepting when he feels his underlings are doing a less than exemplary job.
Mark Hunter was the better GM choice and DJ Smith was the better coach choice.... imo
So every GM in the league would’ve signed them to the same contracts?Every GM in the league would’ve retained the three young guys, and would’ve signed JT if given the opportunity.
it’s about how they react to what the core is showing itself to be that will determine their fate
If Dubas has the final say, it won’t be Torts because Torts would tell Dubas where to go if Dubas tried to interfere.Only if they bring Torts
Mark Hunter was the better GM choice and DJ Smith was the better coach choice.... imo
I can fill Gatorade bottles......maybe.Guy who ruined 3 straight drafts and a guy who ran the leafs trash defence for 3 years.
Maybe I can GM and you can coach.
So you don’t get the impression that Dubas and Shanny have given this core a feeling of entitlement?Every team has games like last night.
No need to consider anything rash until before the TDL.
Kyle, is that you?If they don't nuke the city and start with a new fanbase and media, they did it wrong again.
is it really the city? really? Look at other markets...The Yankees, the Dallas Cowboys, LA Lakers, etc. plenty of other high stakes and media pressure in other cities, but they find a way to win something. These players are all millennials who don't want to work hard, want things handed to them and complain when things do go their way. They asked for an earlier start vs SJ to be 'ready' for PITT, look what happened! They don't want to wear suits..the management caves. They have all their toys now and just want to hide out in the treehouse now. No team mentality here just all ego.
He makes a solid point. Big stars and franchises win under more pressure than Leafsland. That can’t be the excuse and neither should players play harder against us cause they’re from Ontario. This might be the single most braindead, off-base, laughable post in the entire thread.
Congratulations![]()
Fair enough.
It just seems like some around here would rather we keep Kyle even if it means we never win.
Nylander & Matthews yes. Tavares for a fact was offered more by more than 1 GM. Marner you got me on, that’s the bad one.So every GM in the league would’ve signed them to the same contracts?
Can you imagine if nothing is done and they all walk for free wow would that be enough to get Dubas fired . Who knows with Maple leafs they seem to love himTDL of 2023
You’re making yourself look bad trying to defend Kyle DubasNylander & Matthews yes. Tavares for a fact was offered more by more than 1 GM. Marner you got me on, that’s the bad one.
I’m not so sure other GMs would’ve let Matthews sign for just 5 years. I wish I had some inside knowledge, but really I have no idea.Nylander & Matthews yes. Tavares for a fact was offered more by more than 1 GM. Marner you got me on, that’s the bad one.
thanks. that was my point. He makes a solid point. Big stars and franchises win under more pressure than Leafsland. That can’t be the excuse and neither should players play harder against us cause they’re from Ontario.
That’s true. I just feel bad for Tavares. To me, we weren’t ready to sign him, and why would we need two $11 million centers? And on top of that, an $11 million winger?I mean, yeah, you may be right. But, nothing says Tavares can't go eventually. Even the worst contracts get moved.
You really think he's gonna waive his NMC after he chose to come home to be closer to family and has 2 young kids?I mean, yeah, you may be right. But, nothing says Tavares can't go eventually. Even the worst contracts get moved.
Fair enough, however that wasnt really my point. Freddy was a scapegoat instead of dealing with the real issue: Torontos problem is that you have spend so much on a handful of players that when they dont show up, there are no alternatives. Kapanen has been traded to save money, Hyman went for free etc.
No one will take Marner"core".
Matthews is here forever.
Noone will trade for Tavares.
No way anyone moves Willy.
That leaves Marner.
Sure he will -- in year seven at the deadline to chase a Cup.You really think he's gonna waive his NMC after he chose to come home to be closer to family and has 2 young kids?
