He’s been disappointing, there’s no other way to say it, especially coming off his post season last year, which looked like a coming out party.

You see these young players around the league skating, making plays, and contributing. How many times did we hear Pinto and Stutzle’s name called tonight? They were constantly in the mix.

Laf was invisible, and they’ve developed Kakko into a player that does everything but produce. It makes you wonder what the hell is wrong with this organization?

The play he made with a couple of minutes left in the third was embarrassing. Going in on the right side facing a defenseman and instead of trying to make a play or make a move around him he just pulls up and circles back
He's learning from the Master.

Leadership. Kreider/Mika/Panarin.

Oh and not getting any ice time to gain any confidence on the PP doesn't help, but that is secondary. It's the ROTTEN leadership we have. I would be doing everything I could to get 2 out of those 3 off this team.

It's infuriating to me. 2 years ago I was talking about the need to focus on speed and explosiveness for these kids so they can play modern hockey, now they are bulked up and doing lazy Panarin curls.

That's why you move panarin to the bumper and slot laffy or kakko on the halfwall. You remove the overpassing from panarin and offer a shot option on that halfwall with a lefty.

We all know why it won't happen though with panarin's aversion to the slot area anymore.
Umm it also could be because our PP is the envy of the chel.

Still floats around way too much and for a guy who doesn’t have that extra gear that’s a bad combo, it’s like he never has any momentum and has to start from a state of barely moving constantly

Also, like most guys on this team, needs to shoot more often and more specifically hit the net and be shooting to score not predominantly looking for tips/deflections or putting it into the goalies chest

You’re a 1st overall bud, act like it

I know the vets aren’t doing much either and the team is in a bad spot but I’m really sick of the excuses

You can't do that. The bumper position is too tough for Panarin. He might get his toe hit a few times that close to the net.

That shift where he was 1-on-1 with the defenseman, entering the zone on his off wing and then just completely pulls up and stops is emblematic of his career. A total nothing burger outside of a few games during the playoff run. All that room and all of that time and that's the best he could muster. Completely terrified of attacking the middle because he knows that he can't without being defended easily.

When all you can do is force your top talent to play ONLY dated hockey, this is what it looks like. I have nothing against playing simple N/S hockey but we don't even do that effectively as a team, consistently.

Hesitation is death. That's all we see from the kids.

This type of hockey is predicated to older times because the game was slower. You had more time to read and react. The game is MASSIVELY different. It's more about speed, crisp puck movement and skill now. You need to be able to play both ways/adapt. We can't do anything effectively. What's our identity? besides finding ways to lose?

Even our defensie system is terrible. IT's a 'zone-man'. Everyone gets lost in it and the middle of the ice is always vacated. A vet like Trocheck ( coming from the top defensive squad ) who is all effort, has the speed to keep up and instincts has no clue what's going on or what to do... 'read and react' while everyone is skating circles around your stupid zone system. There's a problem here.

From offense, to defense to transition, our system is dated ( in that it's one dimensional ) and obviously confusing to the players. It creates way too much hesitation, flat feet and puck watching. It's not working. I, just like everyone else want to see the kids succeed. I don't blame them though for their stagnant play/development.

Laffy is not the problem. The org/coaching staff is.

Kid needs a boost of confidence. You can see him playing too safe and afraid to try anything.Someone needs to tell him to just go for it and not worry about making a mistake

Watch when any players have the puck in the offensive zone. There's no where to go with the puck. Pause it. There's only low% plays to be made.

This isn't a Laffy problem. Watch Fox and Panarin. All-world elite playmakers... yet more than likely, no where to go with the puck. No one gets open. There's a major problem here that hasn't been addressed for sometime.

Sorry, I don't understand what you're saying.
I'm theorizing that the reason why they won't make those proposed changes to the PP isn't because Drury feels indebted to Trocheck (as some have said) or Panarin's aversion to standing in a different spot...it's because the current setup is perfection.

If they trade him, Chytil, or Kakko at the deadline for Kane, this organization will be a total joke, even worse than now. No one will ever want to be drafted by this team.

Edited to add: Laf will be Rick Middleton all over again if he gets traded, so will Kakko and Chytil.

Trading him for Kane is dumb, but trading him should not be off the table whatsoever.

If we trade Laf and he DOESN'T go on to be an impact player elsewhere I'll eat my shoe. The organization has absolutely zero clue when it comes to developing young talent. The sample size of holding back promising players is just too big to ignore. Freaking Morgan Barron is outperforming all of Laf, Kakko and Kravtsov
