Zadina is practically a buyout candidate at this point. What a disaster that would be.

Not surprising though. I think Detroit know that they're the only legit suitor for DeBrincat and probably won't negotiate against themselves.

I wouldn't be worried about Zadina being the roster player coming back. I think they'll do better than that regardless.

Very most I could see added to Zadina from Detroit is 17th + a 2nd

I guess what I'm saying is they wouldn't settle for Zadina being the roster player coming back.

17th, 2nd and Zadina seems like a decent deal to be honest but I think Dorion will push for at least a legit NHLer who can fit in the middle 6.

If we get Berggren I'll be very happy though.

Why are people acting like Zadina would be the main piece?

I'd assume the 17th pick would be coming with him, or at least a couple of Detroit's 2nds.

Chris Johnston singing a slightly more optimistic tune than Seravalli:

They’re working off a short list of preferred destinations provided by the player and are said to have received “strong interest” from those teams. Expect a push to be made to get this done by the draft. The Sens are currently feeling out DeBrincat’s market value and aren’t placing guardrails around the desired return — they’re open to doing a deal involving established players or future assets.

On 32 Thoughts, Jeff and Elliott mentioned they believe St. Louis is likely to be agressive for immediate help. They cited Keller as a likely target. As has been mentioned here in our own discussions the price for Keller would be high, but I believe the Blues have 3 first round picks allowing them the ability to absorb such a cost, but perhaps Debrincat would be an alternative. Perhaps if they'd rather keep some of the first round picks, losing a roster player and one or two of those picks may be more attractive. Or not?!? Depends on what the Blues management prefers.

I am catching up listening now. I'd rather have Berggren than Zadina personally.

Listened to a lot of it. Here's a brief summary which consists mostly of teams that were listed as potential trading partners:
  • Detroit - maybe 17th (?) and another piece like Zadina
  • Dallas - Frank did not mention anything specific other than he could not figure out what existing player would be part of the trade
  • Carolina - logical fit because of lack of scoring, but questioned whether Canes would want another small forward
  • Pittsburgh - Dubas likes to trade with Ottawa
  • St. Louis - Have three 1st round picks, in the 20s
  • Florida - Mentioned Reinhardt and Bennett because they are nearing the end of their contracts
  • Flyers - Konecny because Flyers won't get a better return that they would now i.e., 2 years left on contract
I thought the mention of Florida was weird as he didn't talk about whether there would be other assets involved from Ottawa's side.

As for timing, the two dates that were discussed were the draft on June 28th (just 9 days from now) and whenever the arbitration hearing would be held which is unknown at this time.

As a general comment, there wasn't much specific information such as the players or assets involved from the other side. I guess the above info was more just a list of teams that could be interested. He also mentioned that while there's likely several teams that are interested, its the contract that Debrincat that will undoubtedly want that will give some potential trading partner some pause & concern.

Well, happy maybe not, but at this point of what we're likely looking at? I think we'd say we did okay if he returns a player of Paul's caliber plus a mid 1st and maybe a throw in.
What is meant by at this point though? Sounds like there's more than 1 team interested. If it's only Detroit, then I'd keep him until the deadline and use him as a hired gun, then trade him then and acquire a more rugged winger. I know it's intricate for someone like Dorion, but this needs to propel us forward, not have us sitting there with a weak UFA crop wondering what to do.

Keller? Arizona is actually thinking of dealing him?

So would you do Debrincat for Reinhart straight up this summer if it were the best offer?

More that St. Louis would be asking about him.

I guess I don't see keeping him as a serious option, so I feel there back is against the wall somewhat here. In that scenario, I think it's all but gauranteed they use him as if he's just their expiring UFA. Or they're well out of the playoffs again I guess, in which case he would be dealt.

I don't expect much. But I hope to be surprised. Probably my pessimistic nature.

Not a pending UFA, no.

I don't think it's your pessimistic nature coming through right now, I think it's being a fan of the Ottawa Senators.
