at least we have a state of the art front office funded by a virtual treasure chest that identified this guy as a key piece of us trading a 40 goal 80 pt winger.
I mean it does make me question our scouts a bit if we targeted him as an asset. As a throwin I couldn’t care less, but that’s not how that trade was sold to us.I know that things just don't work out sometimes and that's the way it goes. But I don't know how anyone can frame Pono noping out not long after that trade as anything other than very unfortunate. People can wiggle around about it now but he was supposed to be the um... Kris Beech of that trade.
OK poor example but you know what I mean.
If nothing else a poor target as part of the return. The guy even comes right out and says he thinks he was a bad fit. Though that could also just be him rationalizing the fact that he isn't very good. Which... again... poor target.
Maybe Howard won't want to play in Pittsburgh, there is always that.I'm going to be super disappointed if Dubas can't pull off Howard, I know other teams also have assets to offer for him but the Penguins have both the NHL minutes to offer him and picks to offer to Tampa Bay for his rights. He's the exact kind of addition this team should be making.
He's also nice because he's a speedy skater and their other notable winger prospects in Koivunen and McGroarty are pretty slow.

It rules how bad FSG has been as owners.Yeah, but we have the financial might of the galatic empire forming the next great dynasty with FSG.

Get a room you two!
But seriously what happened after 2020? Mario and Burkle dropped acid? Their first issue was keeping Rutherford past his expiration which was after the 2017 cup.
Kind of wonder though, what was the brain trust's pick for GM after they nixed Hextall? Let me guess, someone that would never work here?
FSG became owners in late 2021. Hextall was hired by the Lemieux group. Wanna try again or admit the sacred cow Mario was an absentee owner after 2017?FSG bought the team after 2020.

Well 2020 wasn't a real season so "won" is a bit much. Again I ask, best GM to hire then other than Hextall and Burke who clearly led this team to glory? I'm just curious what FSG is supposed to do other than supply cash? So, we won the division under Hextall in 2020-21 and then FSG bought the team and we've been an utter mess since.
I was assuming you meant after 2020 in terms of the season.

"Penguins have relieved Mike Sullivan of his duties, I'm told."Oh good, Frank is finally caught up to news from March.
Why did someone have to be hired midseason? Why not let a trusted assistant take over and then conduct a full search in the offseason?Rutherford quit on the team.
They had to hire someone quickly and there were very little candidates.
Laferriere is a beauty, would be very pleased if we got him in a package for Rakell.Kan Dingerski suggesting today that we trade Rakell to LA for Turcotte or Laferriere…lol…come on, those are mediocre to bust players…awful trade…if we’re trading with the Kings, the only young player they have that I want is Byfield lol…no on Spence, Clarke is maybe…I’d give LA the Rangers pick if we get it + Rakell for Byfield lol
He’s a 40-point player, already 24…I think we have younger version of him in McG…he’s ok, but not sure there’s more meat on that bone…Rakell is much better and I’m not interested in LA’s 2025 first at allLaferriere is a beauty, would be very pleased if we got him in a package for Rakell.
The production isn't anything amazing (yet) but he's young and I think you're sleeping on how big a step he took last year. Really high motor and creates a ton off the rush. He's also super involved in the defensive zone. I would be very happy to have him in our middle six for the next 5 years. He’s a 40-point player, already 24…I think we have younger version of him in McG…he’s ok, but not sure there’s more meat on that bone…Rakell is much better and I’m not interested in LA’s 2025 first at all
Tbh even getting a first plus a good young player *and* a prospect feels excessive for Rakell (or Rust) but I guess that's where the market is probably at for them. What are you expecting for Rakell? He's a good asset but we're not getting a Byfield-calibre player for him. 1st + good young player + prospect is the baseline.
Well at minimum, if we’re trading Rakell for a young player or prospect, it has to be someone who projects with additional growth as a top six player or top 4 D, probably someone who hasn’t broke out yet (I.e. younger than 24)…otherwise don’t trade him…I don’t think we need any more third line players tbh…we have a ton of young players who project as middle six…we need quality…that’s why I’d rather trade someone like Rakell with our first round pick, either to move up in the draft or to trade for a better quality of player, especially a center if we can land oneThe production isn't anything amazing (yet) but he's young and I think you're sleeping on how big a step he took last year.
