It is a great move right now. It doesnt matter about what happens with Kap. They got out of a bad contract for them. Sullivan is the issue but he is king so he wont be fired. Until he is you have to make this move. Kap's rights should have been moved in the summer for like a 6th.

Kap is a better player than he was here but keeping him would not have solved anything.

How is it a great move?

We got cap space so we can ice an awful ass bottom six that somehow is worse.

I think the whole reasoning behind Kap being waived (or traded, but Hextall reportedly nixed a deal to an Eastern Conference team) was so that they'd have space to activate Rutta iirc. Sending Kap down was most of it, but they'd have to have sent down DOC or Friedman as well in order to make the numbers work if Kap went unclaimed. Kap got snagged so they have the space to activate Rutta now.

And who's fault is that? (Not that you haven't been beating that drum...)

We got out of cap space and the next year. And trust me it isnt gona be worse. It might not be better but you couldnt get much worse.

Maybe they wise up and bring up young players now who knows. But you really think its gona be worse?

20 goal type players may not do great in Sully’s system but at least we aren’t leaking odd man rushes and short handed chances against every game

What?

We leak them all the time on all the lines. That literally is Sully's system...

Letang literally just poorly pinched gave them a 2v1 goal... the Pens do this every other game...

One small piece of good news is that Puus and Nylander were mentioned by Hex the other day. Indicating that he at least would like to see some of that (little late now but whatever). But I mean... it's weird to me that people think that's on Hextall to do. The coach holds the lineup card... and this coach is even more influential than just that.

We would have seen more youth in the bottom six by now if that's what the coach wanted. This idea that Ron Hextall is somehow to blame for the team not rotating in young legs as the year goes by is a laugh riot.

I'm not... @AuroraBorealis put up the Points stats, he's like one of our better Points/Even Strength. He just needs a coach with a different systems and he'll be and okay middle six.

Just more shitty asset management from our end.

A few more galaxy brain moves go south like this and we're literally going to be done.

I don't know about you but most of the "Hexy" / Sullivan FA's haven't really been good. 60-70 Junk?
I agree, still based off of his contract.

Dude was screwed here and I hope he kills it in St. Louis.

Yes, because we allowed our coach to get rid of the only ounce of offensive creativity in the bottom six and now we get more Heinen, Archibald and Blueger.

I wanna say Hextall has no idea who either of those players are and just repeated names a reporter specifically asked him about. "Hey Hextall, what about trying Puustinen and/or Nylander? They're doing well in WBS." "Oh, uh, yeah. Those two guys you named, with the names Puustinen? And Nylander? (we got f***ing Nylander buried in WBS? When did I snag him from Toronto?!) Yeah they're great. We gotta give them a shot. Okay, enough about those guys, next question."

Ok cool. Still the move had to be made. It was clear sullivan didnt like Kap. He shouldnt have been signed. Now he is gone and they can move on.

I despise Sullivan the same if not more than you but this move had to be done because Hextall cant fire him. No one can apparently lol. At least there is some change. I hope they bring up Hallander and trade TB next.

Wild how tight it is right now.

Probably. When any of these guys open their mouths in public it's a near-guarantee what follows is a shameless lie.

They aren’t going to bring up youth.

This is what Sullivan wants.

Kapanen needed a real chance at a top six role. He wasn't going to get that here. Thinking back now, Kapanen should have been the one left unprotected. He'd be the one in Seattle.

Talk about epic screw ups and this one is 20/20 hindsight.

I remember Pixies arguing with me in the summer that McGinn is a good player.

Lol.

I will greatly miss Kapanen's offensive creativity of skating the puck into the offensive zone and then doing a Gretzky curl and turning it over

Kapanen was one of our best primary assist producers in the last three years.

Cool but like what did want them to do. If they cant fire sully what did you expect to happen?

Waive Chad Ruhwedel and Josh Archibald to get cap compliant because they suck.
