I don't give a **** if someone had two moms, no moms, an alien mom, is black, white, Asian, Latino, gay, straight, bi, etc. The only thing that matters is if you're good at your job or not. None of this **** matters. Focusing on this nonsense is a loser mentality. Live your life and be a decent person. If you aren't harming me, I don't care.

And I agree with you completely. But you have to remember not everybody thinks the same way we do. Which is why the two mother thing is still considered news. Even in 2017

I agree. I just care if the player can help us win a cup. If this guy can score goals I am happy with the pick up. Same with bringing Voynov back, his personal life is his business. I just want a good right handed defenseman.

Again you can disagree and that's fine but scouts consider everything. Like that article said they see if someone came from a two parent home. Obviously an athlete may be raised properly by one parent but scouts look at that issue and weigh it.

See also "Fair or not, Sam’s combine performance may be even more important because he came out. The day he told the world he is gay, Sports Illustrated quoted anonymous NFL insiders saying that his sexuality would impact his draft status. "

Sam was on my team and was horrible. That's why he was cut. Nice try. And where do you get off saying that an LGBT family with two moms isn't a two-parent home? He has two parents.

You're failing, bubba.

Every year, in every sport, players are picked in the top-5/10 of their draft class from broken homes, this kid isn't in that situation, tho, and that's a whole different argument. One that you're also wrong about.

Talent is what gets a player drafted, unless he's a Randy Gregory/Votanze Burfict-type. Not what their parents did, or whom they are, or who they ****.

If this is truly the case you should just leave it at that, rather than present arbitrary thoughts and interpretations about a player's LGBT background and how it affected his draft.

Unless, again, you have a link.

You don't make any sense and aren't reading the articles that you demanded. Each one of them says that scouts consider home factors and that Sam's orientation effected his ranking. You may subjectively feel he is a horrible player but that quote says scouts considered his personal background.

Two moms, one mom, three dads etc... scouts look at all of that. Some may care some may not, but they thoroughly vet everything about a player's background.

Race also doesn't determine how good a player will be but Kopitar dropped in rankings because he was Slovanian.

Dude it's not arbitrary thoughts. All of these are FACTORS scouts weigh. Some give more weight while others don't care. I just sent you two links stating that scouts consider those factors, but you just conclude there is no evidence. You live in fantasy land if you think scouts don't consider issues that would offend some people.

Show me where scouts care about gay parents.

Sam dropped because he was viewed as a long shot. He also may have dropped because he was gay, I'm willing to acquiesce there. But Sam is gay. Dolan isn't. The gay dynamic is much more political in the NFL. However, he was still drafted, given a shot, and was horrible.

GMs draft talent. Unless the talent is more of a headache than it's worth.

You think there's a possibility that our kid dropped because he comes from a two-mother household, and that other player-personnel brass perhaps viewed him as feminine.

Ok, bubba, that's a whole hell of a lot of conjecture.

I agree.

Unfortunately, there are groups of people who seem to think they know what's in the best interest of everyone else, and thus has certain biases.

People do not understand the dynamic of having two moms. They do not know what values were instilled. They don't know enough people who have experienced that dynamic to know how it could affect someone. People with gender biases could think the kid spent the first 15 years of his life watching Sex & the City and crying every time Beaches is played. Frankly, people fear what they don't understand.

I don't personally know anyone who grew up with two moms. I know and am friends with a few people in the LGBT community, and even none of them have kids. So I admit I'm curious about the dynamic.

I'm not saying people are right to be prejudiced or have their bias. But people use these things based on past experiences to make future assessments. If they don't have a frame of reference, then they make the closest assumptions they can to make sense.

I am glad that it's a story, though. It raises awareness, it shows the success that kids can have while having that family dynamic, and it will hopefully raise awareness to the bullying these kids undoubtedly endure.

You quipping that front offices may have passed due to his two-mother household is absolutely conjecture and arbitrary, unless you have proof. It's the very definition of such, Alpha.

You're being unreasonable. JAD said himself he was passed over in the Bantam draft in the WHL, because some of the GMs told him they didn't approve of his household. You think biases suddenly disappear once they are NHL GMs and scouts?

Quit being patronizing and defensive over something AB even agrees with you on principle.

I've met PLENTY of women that were way stronger than men. It all depends on the person. Whether you have a dick or **** doesn't dictate how strong you are, it's all between your ears.

Remember when teams passed on Kopitar because he came from some alien planet?

To be fair, he did look a bit extraterrestrial. Mainly the hair...

Saying Kopi dropped because he's Slovenian is a bit disengenuous. He dropped due to skating concerns and the poor amount/lack of prospects that come out of Slovenia. It was more about trepidation of his pedigree/skating than his race.

I'm not being patronizing. I'm debating AB and sticking to my guns. He can speak for himself, KP, as he's done so already.

I'm not discussing some WHL nonsense, I'm discussion the NHL.

So your saying that a scout can be prejudicial enough to consider if the player is gay, but those same scouts won't care if the player's parents are gay?

Again you live in fantasyland if you think NHL scouts didn't consider whether Dolan came from a two mom home. Glad they did because he fell on the Kings lap. Hope he wins a cup for us.

Well I won't disagree with you there (him winning a cup with us).

I think he fell due to his showing at the junior tourney when given the C. You feel that it's due to an agenda created by his homelife. I don't agree.

If I ever see otherwise, I will eat crow.

So even though he has actually experienced being passed up in the WHL due to his family history, you think there is NO INFLUENCE as soon as he's in the NHL?

Mark Yanetti saying people who have a problem with his family dynamic can screw themselves and work a different job... you don't think has anything to do with the scouting community?

You're being deliberately stubborn just to antagonize someone who said something disagreeable. That's not sticking to your guns.

Just curious, do you have a link to that, KP?

you haven't seen the responses when organizations hold LGBT days have you?

It may not be a story in a state like CA, but in other states this is still something that fans/players think should be shunned (sadly)

Gotta love the irony here.

He might be too soft for the NHL because he does not have a father figure.
There are coaches that literally said this about Christians:

http://www.calgaryherald.com/life/C...+embraces+players+religion/8273238/story.html

Some say that has more to do with the mostly made-in-Canada reserved culture of the game and the men who play it. Others say the origins of that reluctance can be traced back to the late Harold Ballard. The curmudgeonly Toronto Maple Leafs' owner famously singled out then-Leaf centreman Laurie Boschman for what he called his "soft" play in a losing effort against the New York Rangers in Madison Square Gardens in the early '80s, placing the blame squarely on the shoulders of his Christian beliefs.

"He said I had too much religion, and that he was going to trade me or send me down to the minors," recalls Boschman, now 52.

I'm not being "deliberately antagonizing," this is how I debate, mon frere. Stop assuming I'm doing this or that. Please. You're being patronizing in trying to fit me into some label of yours. I have a strong personality, it is what it is. Ignore me if it bothers you.

I took Yannetti's comments as perhaps a reply to some media shill asking about (perhaps) any backlash from the pick due to his background.

And, again, do you have a link to the WHL claim?

Hey Spokane Chiefs fan here to tell you a bit more about Jaret Anderson-Dolan(JAD). You guys got a steal with this pick imo. He's my dad's favorite Chief because he seems to get a hat trick every time my dad is at a game  and he's one of my favorites as well. He's a well-rounded player who can do a bit of everything but his goal scoring is his best asset. He played with a very skilled winger in Kailer Yamamoto but he didn't take a passive role on the line. JAD takes fewer risks than Kailer but he's equally willing to jump into the play, roam the ice and look for the best scoring opportunity. His physicality is average. He doesn't shy away from contact but he doesn't seek it out either. This past season he was a pretty consistent offensive player(points in 51 of 72 games) but some nights he has the ability to singlehandedly take over a game by himself leading to the aforementioned hat tricks. If he can lock into that dominance consistently then he's going to be an amaing player. As you guys have already noted, he's one of the youngest players in this draft and only 3 days away from being 2018 eligible instead so he has a lot of room for further growth. Just in the past season he showed exceptional growth and I hope to see it continue next season.

Off the ice he's a very mature and hard working person. It would not surprise me at all if he wears a letter for you in the future if he makes it to the NHL. This past season he was awarded the Chiefs Player's Player and Coaches' Player awards voted on by his teammates and coaches and he was named the Team Canada captain at the WJC U-18 tournament a couple of months ago ahead of some much better known players. He's a guy that will bust his ass on and off the ice to become a better player.

There's a lot of articles around about his family but if you'd like to know more about him I'd recommend this article in the local Spokane paper which I think does a good job of showcasing his character and work ethic: Link

Hopefully this gives you some more info about him. My mom is a closet Kings fan so she's thrilled about this(and you guys just picked up our former coach Nachbaur too lol). She might be the first person with a JAD Kings jersey  All in all he's a really talented, high character kid and I wish him the best in your organization. I think you'll be very happy with this pick.

This is great to hear, thank you. I was kind of worried when I saw how much he played with Yamamoto(s), but he seems to drive plays on his own and compliment him rather than get carried. But I can imagine one of the reasons either guy was lower was because of that factor too.

This board and HF in general is pretty reasonable about this but I don't think it's much of an assumption to say sports are still a hostile environment to many diverse backgrounds. The NHL's 'you can play' stuff is an attempt to change that a bit, but it's still a long journey.

JAD has just been a steady badass with a calm demeanor in the face of junior GMs biases and I admire it.

That being said let's try to avoid totally politicizing this thread.
