I'm not being "deliberately antagonizing," this is how I debate, mon frere. Stop assuming I'm doing this or that. Please. You're being patronizing in trying to fit me into some label of yours. I have a strong personality, it is what it is. Ignore me if it bothers you.

I took Yannetti's comments as perhaps a reply to some media shill asking about (perhaps) any backlash from the pick due to his background.

And, again, do you have a link to the WCL claim?

It was brought up late this season that Anderson-Dolan has two mothers and, more to the point, was passed on in the WHL Bantam Draft by several teams because of it. Given the player he’s developing into, those teams are likely kicking themselves.

Things haven’t always been smooth sailing for him, however. “When Anderson-Dolan was going through the WHL bantam draft process, some teams told him and his family they would not take him because of his two mothers,†the paper reports. Anderson-Dolan says he doesn’t care, and would rather be in an organization where he is supported completely.

It's one thing for a player to receive backlash for who he is, and yet quite another for who his family is.

Both are wrong, but completely different dynamics. A player doesn't pick his parents.

Yet many players in many sports still have to overcome biases to be successful.

Saying Kopi dropped because he's Slovenian is a bit disengenuous. He dropped due to skating concerns and the poor amount/lack of prospects that come out of Slovenia. It was more about trepidation of his pedigree/skating than his race.

NHL analysts said straight out that Kopitar was passed on by many teams because of there being "no example of Slovenian heritage" in the NHL, despite tearing up Sweden at a young age.

Unfounded bias is unfounded bias. Jarome Iginla and Mike Fisher are pretty well-known Christians, as well as Stu Grimson. Does anyone think they don't play tough?

This board and HF in general is pretty reasonable about this but I don't think it's much of an assumption to say sports are still a hostile environment to many diverse backgrounds. The NHL's 'you can play' stuff is an attempt to change that a bit, but it's still a long journey.

JAD has just been a steady badass with a calm demeanor in the face of junior GMs biases and I admire it.

That being said let's try to avoid totally politicizing this thread.

I agree it's a long journey, and I hope I haven't politicized the discussion too much. Going back to the point, I do like the kid's resolve (even if he seems to be Toews-like serious), but given what he's had to deal with, I think that he has done a great job keeping focus on the important issues at hand.

Alpha,

Apologies, too, if you felt I came across as too confrontational. I get very passionate in debating. If you ever feel that way, let me know, and I'll slow my roll. PJ Kings, Dam, BigKing, Rocky, and others have done so in the past. I listen, especially when it's coming from the other party I'm speaking to. Unless they're Ducks fans :)

Godspeed, AB.

That's half my point in the post you're replying to, PR.

"I’m not drafting a kid who pushes rocks up a mountain and jumps over milk crates and calls it training" - Doug MaClean

Whoops. At least he admits now he was an idiot.

The MaClean comment is classless, but I still believe it was the lack of historically elite Slovenians that dropped him in the draft. However, point taken there, Frito.

Kopi very well may have fallen due to his race. I will acquiesce there, as well. That's pathetic and sad if true.

What a world we live in, ey.

No worries bro. Touchy subject for some ppl

Habs fan coming in peace.

Really jealous you guys got him. He plays in my WHL team's division so I've seen a lot of him over the past couple years. He's got future 1st line center written all over him. Take good care of him Kings :(

Thank you for the feedback!

Pretty high praise to call him a future 1st line center. If you do player comparisons, do you have a particular player you'd compare him to? I read somewhere the high end is Mike Richards; I heard on the NHL Network today he's like a left handed Vincent Trochek. Any additional insight I could trouble you to share?

This kid is a phenomenal young talent. Should have gone first round.
I cannot believe the Kings got 2 highend impactful offensive prospects at
11 and 41. They are both 17 and coming off great years.

JAD has such a high skill level, great hands, great speed, and wicked accuracy
and release.

JAD - he had NOTHING to do with how he entered the world and it has nothing to
do with his ability, manlihood or character. If anything, it has made him a stronger and better person. Hate is hate in any form and you look at the person and their character
and their hockey ability. The fact he has been captain says a lot about him.

Great draft.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins or a smaller Jeff Carter. Great goal-scoring center. I like the Richards comparison too. He has a great hockey IQ which allows him to get open and utilize his blistering shot. He's got one of the most threatening one-timers in the WHL. Despite being 5'11, he plays physical and dishes out body checks. He's got a great defensive game too. Plays aggressive in his own zone. Also a great locker room presence. Real good head on his shoulders. (feels like that's already common knowledge now though)

Wow man, thanks for the insight! Getting more and more pumped about this pick! A potential RNH/Jeff Carter-type in the second round.

Yessir!

And as good as he is now, he has so much room to grow. He made the 2017 draft cutoff by just 3 days. Really wouldn't be surprised to see him break 100 points next season. You guys got a gem. He really should have went in the first.

Thanks for the input, Stive! We really need to restock our baron prospect pool, really hoping we nailed these first two picks, in particular.

I hope you continue to follow him and he lives up to your expectations :)

You're awesome, thank you so much for the feedback!

I'm going to try to watch as much as I can this season. By any chance, do you think you'll have a chance to chime in from time to time to share some more observations if he's local for you?

If not, it's cool. I just love hearing quality feedback (good or bad, but good is always, you know... good).
