I can’t see us re-signing Miller, or Vancouver taking that deal.

Luke Kunin is not good.

Man the pieces out make me cringe which is why I know it's fair. I'd do this one. Horvat is ROR 2.0.

Horvat isn't in ROR's league defensively.

He's not a BAD defensive center, by any means........but he's not even the best defensive forward on Vancouver (obviously Dickinson is better and I feel like Motte and JT Miller are also better defensively).

We are trading low on Mitts at this point. Keeping him and crossing our fingers for another year is the best bet.

Is it still too soon to talk about Cozens, though? Us getting Krebs and the development of our other youngsters suddenly means that one could be expendable. The Cozens ceiling is lower than Krebs, Peterka, or Quinn, imo. Thompson sure seems to be peaking in a similar role as Cozens, as well.

If we could package him with something to bring about a tried-and-true top 6 forward in their 20s I would be very interested. The difference between him and the top-tier skill guys is evident.

Why? We haven't even really seen Dylan in action yet, give him proper wings and see what happens. I liked when he played with Skinner and Tuch. Cozens has had some very good games this season but needs more consistency and normal wings.

Horvat and Miller I think just don't fit because of their contracts and I don't think they're going to sign an extension in Buffalo. Hoglander and Podkolzin are interesting young players, but I wouldn't pay a lot for them, we ourselves have a lot of young players who will also have to play next season. Boeser might be interesting, but he's far from perfect.

I think Conor Garland was a very good option for a top 6 winger, he has a good contract and age, he plays with great tenacity, he is good both in defense and in attack.

He’s 20 years old on a 40+ point pace, a transition beast and a high character kid. Almost all of his points at 5v5 too. Yes, it is too early.

I would definitely give up one of the Vegas or Florida 1sts for him.

I’d part with both, or one of them and Rosen, for Garland and Podkolzin.

Hoglander is the guy out of that group that is the most interesting to me based on age/cost/potential. He's got a great combo of skill and sandpaper. Garland is a nice player, but he's young and already established so you'll have to pony up to land him and I get the impression I wouldn't like to pay what the Canucks would want for him.

Any of Boeser, Garland, Hoglander and Podkolzin are interesting, it's just that the first two are more proven players for the top 6. Basically it all depends on the price, if they want too much then we don't need it. But I think we could find some reasonable deal to get one of them.

If Horvat is interested in extension go for it, if not we'll get outbid by the teams that has use for him this season.

Anyone wanna throw some money at Hertl? He’s so good
You'd basically be getting a less physical version of the Kyle Okposo the Sabres signed. He'll be 29 years old next November and I doubt he'd be interested in the Sabres unless they overpaid. I think he'd end up being another bad contract. I wouldn't consider a player like that unless my team was ready to contend.

Hertl 557GP , 173G, 192A, 365PT, 176PIM
Okposo 529GP, 139G, 230A, 369PT, 310PIM

Do not expect any big players to come in at trade deadline. Sabres are sellers not buyers.

I am not sure you will see any movement. To have a trade, it’s got to have more value than keeping them on the roster. What good are 7th round draft picks to a team with lots of prospects.

Hard for me to compare the two but that’s mainly because I didn’t know much about Okposo pre-Sabres other than him being Tavares Kunitz. While the overall stats are somewhat similar, Hertl is a big center with amazing hands, solid speed, and a good 2-way game. Plus he has played wing at times too. Anytime I catch a sharks game he’s always impressive. Plus his stats are pretty damn good in the last few years. A lot of people could have told you Okposo’s game was inflated by Tavares while Hertl is the driver of the sharks offense

Hertl does not impress me as a UFA target given term and salary demands. I want to avoid bad anchor contracts.

This idea of trading vegas 1st is stupid. I expect it to be a top 20 pick.
