Yes, but we are now 46 out of 50 contracts, at TDL we will probably trade 4-6 players, they will probably have the flexibility to sign three players from college and claim a guy like Perlini off the waver, although it does not have to be Perlini, but we also could have picked up Nedeljkovic at the right time.
Being a shitty team with nothing to lose also gives us the opportunity to entice an unsigned NCAA player with an NHL carrot

E: may have been mentioned but Jake Livingstone is a big RD out of Minn State with some nastiness that can shoot the puck Jake Livingstone at eliteprospects.com

The issue with that is most teams have little cap space so they could be forced to take back players

Not that Perlini is it but they'd need a couple of warm bodies if they're able to move a few out and hope to get the kids some meaningful games.

There will also be some AHL-level UDFA to sign and the possibility that they take back possible contracts to maximize trade value.

The balancing act will be that the AHL playoffs are the top three in the North get a first round bye and only the top five make it by winning percentage. They're not that far from being out of it as the Marlies, Rocket and Sens have all gone on runs.

You don't need to be a cup winner to be a good mentor and teacher. Okposo has been in the league a long time, he's overcome a serious injury that could have ended his career and he's rebounded from it. He also loves being a part of this team and community and wears a letter. At this point you aren't getting a much better Vet in this locker room.
If we want a guy who can teach the kids to sign a big contract they can't live up to and cling onto their playing career a few years past when they probably should have hung up the skates due to concussions and spout cliched platitudes during interviews/in the locker room, all while the team circles the toilet drain year after year, then yeah, he's the guy.

Okposo's big bounce back this season is pacing for 22g/29a/51points he's still well short of being worth $6mil.

Compare a recent Tuch interview to an Okposo interview. One guy has specific, constructive criticism on what the team needs to improve on. The other has empty platitudes. Okposo is like the epitome of the "ok with losing culture", and many on these boards prop him up as some leader to look up to because of his medical comeback feel good story. Okposo is a really nice guy, but we don't need nice guys, we need vets that can still play and produce up to or even exceed their contracts.

I think its a bit of a stretch to say any professional athlete is OK with losing. They are, by nature, competitive guys.

Okposo might simply be playing to try to get enough value to be traded. He didn't get a cup run with the Islanders and he isn't getting one here. He knows the team won't be good before he leaves, so he's just trying to get through it.

They didn't do anything when the Penguins toss Michel Dion in net to guarantee them Mario. They didn't do anything when Quebec mis-managed themselves to 3-straight 1OA's. They didn't do anything when the Pens stripped their team to the ground to set themselves up for drafting Crosby (which due to the initial lockout lottery worked out in their favor). BUT then they had to start f***ing meddling about and now it's just bullshittery in a league known for its backroom deals and rampant old boys club shenanigans. That people think it might be faked is because the league lends itself to that foolishness. And regardless of the transparency, just get rid of it.

I’m as old as the Sabres…I know all about the intentional tanking.

Seattle should have been an expansion team in the early 90s. Thrn back room deals came in.
it’s true in other sports too.

in theNHL ( and the NBA) there is a significant drop off in talents once past the top 10-20 picks.

Almost all players use those cliches when giving interviews. When they go off topic like ROR and show some real emotion they are called locker room cancers and trouble makers and run out of town. Ultimately I really don't care about interviews. They are about the most useless aspect of judging a hockey player. No one is saying Okposo has lived up to his contract or that he's some key cog moving forward. He's an overpaid vet with one year left on his deal. He's not part of the solution moving forward nor is he the reason this team has been garbage for the last decade despite your assertions. There can be lessons learned from a guy who's been in the league for over a decade and overcome adversity along the way simple as that. I'd like more players like Tuch as well. How do you propose we get those players? You think good vets are signing here in FA for reasonable deals? You think teams are itching to trade good players on reasonable contracts?

This is the stuff I was talking about before. Where guys who had been assumed out longer are suddenly practicing.

They started the season with recovery time lines that were to short and kept getting revised longer. Granato apologized for that. Since then they’ve seemed to be too long.

Veterans that we acquired through trade and FA that have underperformed to their contract are probably the biggest reason why we're still in this mess. He's 100% been a part of the problem.

These lines are much more in line with what they need.. that 5th line also would bring so much more than the 4th line. Girgensons too. Bryson and Dahlin is… something.

I started complaining that Granato wasn't trying to play Dahlin with Fitz or Bryson and he immediately did (I know due to Joki's injuries, but still). :)

Nightmare? Why?
We're playing an incredibly fast team tomorrow, and both have a habit of getting absolutely walked by fast forwards on the rush.

Dahlin has been a lot better, but both are extremely "high event" players and putting a steady defensive guy like Pysyk with either of them would be a lot safer.

Well, at least I'm interested in seeing it.

Bryson tends to defend the rush better than most of the rest of the blueline. The concern I see is Fitz back with Samuelsson. Load the grenade launcher...

Canucks seem to have any of these players available for trade.

Miller
Horvat
Garland
Boeser
Hoglander
Podkolzin

Horvat please. I think they’d ask for Cozens though. I’d counter with Mitts, FLA 1st, and Johnson. They probably wouldn’t take that

The problem is that Horvat is a UFA in a year, but of course he is a good player. Miller has the same problem as Horvat. I would be interested in any of Garland, Boeser, Hoglander and Podkolzin.
