Haven’t checked in here in a while, but these prices are steep. Please don’t trade for Scott Laughton

ROR is intriguing. I’d be willing to move Lapierre. Just don’t really see a spot for him in the coming years. Hes still shiny enough to have some value

I just don’t see how they can roll with Eller as a 3C when they could have a legit shot at getting through the East in the playoffs. He’s just not good anymore. He’s not even a 4C caliber player on a Cup contending team. He’s the one spot that really needs to be upgraded.
He’s a fifth line center.

We have a first line, a second line, a fourth line and a fifth line. And in first place.

No Leonard, no Hutson, no Protas. Those are my untouchables.

As Mortimer Duke once said, “don’t worry if the prices go up, just keep buying”

And to quote Red, from Shawshank, “get busy living, or get busy dying.”

I’m not looking at the metro my man. Tampa Bay has beefed up and are looking mean. We don’t have the depth to hang with that roster as it currently stands in a playoff brawl. We are one or two injuries from Raddysh or Mango top six.
Hedman got hurt last night. Any team is a injury away from being screwed.

And yes, Im scared to call up anyone from the bottom 6 to fill in the top lines. But from whats left on the market I like Sonny, Miro, Lappy, and Leonard as call ups.

Ovi has one last kick at the can and you want to bank it on a college player coming in. Good lord.

It's not that I don't want them to go all in, it's that I don't see the players available as significant difference makers.

Rantanan looks like a product of MacKinnon/Makar at this point. He's at a half a PPG in Carolina. And yes, I think the college kid can come in and achieve a half PPG - especially if the Caps give him 19:44 TOI per game like Rantanen is getting.

Still calling my shot from two weeks ago. Hoping for Ryan O’Reilly, settle for Ryan Strome.

It will be Ryan Strome.

They made their big moves in the offseason, which is the best time to make the moves since they get training camp and a full season to get acclimated as opposed to 20 games down the stretch. They traded for a top six/top line center (PLD), a top pairing D (Chychrun) and a starting goalie (Thompson). They added middle/bottom six guys in Eller, Raddyish, Mangiapane, and Raddyish.

I’d rather have Leonard as their acquisition as opposed to acquiring some of the retread trash being thrown around at inflated prices just for the sake of doing something.

I wouldn’t hate an upgrade on Lars and maybe moving Lars to wing but I really don’t want to see them overpay for a depth piece that’s not going to move the needle.

Come on man. Eller has his flaws and he's a below average 3c on a contender but he's a perfectly fine bottom 6 player by basically every metric.

They absolutely do not have a "fifth line"

RyLo is a college player and Moses Malone was just a high school baller. Ultimately, he may not have quite the same career path as Malone, but let's not pretend that Lenny isn't one of the preeminent "college players" of the day.

Don’t we all, but why assume that, to make us all feel better if they do nothing?
Obviously it's a guess based on previous performance. Maybe on the Caps, Laughton would turn into a top 6C in a miracle run. Stranger things have happened.

But I've been saying for months that most of the available players didn't appear to be the right fit (other than Nelson). This wasn't cope, because it was before I knew the prices were absurd.

I don’t want to see Lars as a regular in the line up.

Yeah, the goal he had the other night was beautiful. Unfortunately, it was in our net.

If we go into postseason with Lars Eller at 3c, we will get what’s coming to us.

The fourth line plays more minutes than the third. That makes our third a fifth.

Marchand should cost less than market value compared to these other guys. His injury is supposedly going to keep him out until closer to the end of season or start of playoffs. He’s on the downturn of his career but he’s an absolute pain in the ass and a playoff warrior and you need more guys like that in your corner. I’d be on the phone with Boston today quite a bit.

I'd be a little concerned brining such a big personality into a team that already has a number of big personalities on it. Especially when said personalities have been going hard at each other for so long. I'm not saying it couldn't work, just be a little nervous.

funny last dig at ellers caps career aquiring marchand to replace him maybe after that vicious haymaker he received from him a few years ago

Hate to be a "look at the chart" guy but look at the chart. Eller is what he is, a slightly below average finisher and playmaker, solid PKer, that doesn't create much offense at 5v5 but gives up even less. That big -.07 sG number (McCurdy's WAR-esque stat) is towards the top end of what you'd expect from a third line forward.

The Dowd line playing more than the Eller line no matter what should make Eller even less of an issue

Washington’s room would be one of the few that I think wouldn’t have an issue with it. They seem to bring guys into the fold pretty quickly and they are a veteran group. Marchand has done some dumb shit on the ice but I never got the sense that his teammates hated him. I also don’t think he would have gotten the captaincy if that was the case. It could definitely work.

We need a third line that drives offense. We are trying to win the Cup. How is any of this good enough? Honestly, you tell me.
