Give him some runway. The 1st was given seeing how the deadline went and it seemed like quite a few other players declined to come here. Bit of a concern tbh and the other concern to me is that this was the “main”’and Carlo kind of came together. I would have personally preferred just the Carlo deal, turns out it was almost the other way around.

Well I was very disappointed with Laughton in his 1st game .. lost a puck battle for an early goal against and then made a horrible decision not to go after Mack on da game winner .. for f*ck sakes at least charge after him and force a tough shot or a pass back to point .. to curl away and leave games best player 1 on 1 with stolly in a tie game .. what da f*ck was that Laughton .. horrible start to your Leaf career .. I always worry abut Oakville guys they just don't have da nuts

Robertson on the 4th line is just a stupid decision by Berube. The thinking is adding scoring to the line, but with a centre like Kampf, who is an offensive black hole, that isn't happening.
That made no sense. TBH I’m surprised Robertson is still wearing the blue and white after the trade deadline. I guess with limited cap space you can only do so much at once but I fully expect him to be moved this off-season.

He probably thinks if Marner skips town he has a shot up in the top 6

Knies - Matthews - Domi
Patches - Tavares - Marner
McMann - Laughton - Nylander

Sure, but there's no universe where Berube drops any of the "stars" to the 3rd line. That much has been made clear going all the way back to when M&M signed their first extension.

Pretty much they play where & with whom they want.

As for Laughton, yes he was awful but he'll be fine. Whether he'll be good enough is another question but that last night was not anywhere near his level of play.

He had been playing mostly on the wing in Philly and it showed last night.

Sometimes a guy wants to do too much. He needs to remember, "defense first, on counter attack, drive the net and forecheck". That's it.

It was his first game after no rest, he and Carlo running on fumes.

Tanev, McCabe and Stolarz will be the key to any playoff success. If the core disappear as they usually do, none of the trades matter anyways. The 3rd Liner on this team has to bring some drive and the odd big goal. not necessarily alot of goals. Think playoffs and build habits towards that time to perform

The rest of the season is just time to get some chemistry and figure out line competitions. Not the best game last night but there was also some nice things, he definitely plays with an edge

Feels like Laughton was overpay for the wrong thing. When the Big 4 plus Knies isn't on the ice, I don't think we need a feisty mid size guy grinding around with minimal offense, to create safe minutes or anything like that. The gap between him and Brock Nelson or Charlie Coyle was on full display last night. Guy from a bad program missing assignments at center, getting exposed, no offensive upside. He doesn't give us anything special on a good day, and it looks like he's capable of some pretty bad days too. People say to be patient, but what do you realistically expect when he's going well? I wish we hadn't done this one. I said it before the trade and I'm not into it.

This might go down as one of the worst trades in our illustrious history of bad trades. Utterly idiotic.
Oh come on, everybody would give up a 1st for a 3rd liner, especially when you get him for a year and a bit before he can go u f a. You do that every year, think of the team you will have in 10 years.

A 1st is a top prospect with how bare our farm is. Any player drafted with it likely becomes one of our top prospects.

In essence, we traded two of our top prospects for Laughton.
But you have to keep in mind that since management and ownership have put all their trust in this core, then they have to do what they can to give them the best chance possible to win the Cup.
I don’t agree with all the trades they have made up to this point. If it was me, I would have made big changes after they shit the bed in that series against the Habs! If I’m being completely honest, I don’t believe this core has what it takes to make a deep playoff run, let alone winning the Cup!

I’m beginning to worry about Berube. How on earth did McMann only get around 10 minutes of ice time last night?!

guy step in when he played in entire carreer in same team to play in the team he always watching... So a lot of emotion

no practice at all in a complete different system and basically play resulting on a goal against was big part miscommunication...

Avs second goal he played zone coverage and rielly played man to man coverage = result both goes on same guy

gm tying goal it was the reverse Myers goes on avs D around the board and came back as zone coverage and switch guy. Laughton played a man to man coverage = result both goes on the same guy and drouin was all alone in front of the net

Both was miscomunication and something who can be solve pretty quickly by get some practice and get chemistry with rest of the team. nothing alarming at all here

Scott Laughton is a Jarnkrok, Kerfoot level offensive producer in a career year with 24 playoff games to his name. We paid a first but there's no upside there.
It’s funny you brought up Kerfoot, after watching last game I literally thought to myself we might as well have kept or traded for Kerfoot lol.

It’s one game though, no practice and a new system. It’ll take time.

Laughton does hit. Where keefoot used to get hit

Laughton isn't good as he was advertised or bad as he appeared to be

But he doesn't solve our depth scoring problem

There wasn't any center with scoring capability really available
