The Caps being good and stacked in the prospect wing has forced some organizational panic from teams who fear their window is closing it seems. I hope some how some way they win it all because those past offseason was one for the ages. I was always cautiously optimistic about it, but this season has exceeded all expectations already. Let’s Go Caps!!!

Yeah, I wanted Nelson, but not at that cost.

Luckily there are still some terrible GMs who may be selling, could still find a good deal.

I think there's a slim chance the market could shift back more favorably to buyers. Not for someone like Laughton, who they ought to avoid anyway. Or a defenseman given limited options. But beyond Donato/Zucker/Palmieri there's the off chance a rebuilder may be open to moving a non-rental winger for picks to flip in the summer for further restructuring. The value would still need to be there but it's what I'd target to a greater extent. Could there be a buy-low opportunity on someone like Zegras? They've done well to target change of scenery types...might as well try it again if possible if the market is otherwise inflated. There's some risk attached in the relative maintenance level compared to others but overall targeting a younger player should be more easily justified compared to getting into a bidding war over a typical rental stopgap.

Winnipeg & Toronto definitely still need to make moves. We'll see if NJD can land a center. LAK has been looking for more scoring. VGK is lurking. Outside of that...hard to say how active today will be.

How the hell is Brock Nelson worth two firsts?

lol at Carolina
Looks like it's one first (unless the "two" is meant to include Ritchie, so yeah, I guess it's two):

For buy low. Marchand for Bostons 2nd back. If Boston gets left with no dance partners and want to deal.
Other then that nothing today interests me

some of these trades are really suprising to me. Like that teams are giving up on these young guys so fast for a lottery chance at winning the cup.

Centers and D are going to be really expensive through the end, you'd think.

As for wingers who aren't really big, there's always a guy or two who gets left behind and have less interest for whatever reason. Some because of trade protection, some because of cap reasons and some in cases where the team just waits too long. Plenty of options to pick up a guy like that. It could end up being some of:

Palmieri (16-team no-trade list)
Armia (Doubt it though, no trade protection and he is big PK'er)

Other UFA's who might be able to provide another scoring option, but are merely another options rather than upgrades:

Beauvillier (Not sure if he's even an upgrade but another option. UFA, likely cheap)
Danforth (Doubt CBJ wants to sell but he's pretty good)
Carcone (Crazy scoring streak last season, quiet this season, good shot)

I'd love if Ryan Donato fell into that category but with his cap hit and zero trade protection i don't see it happening. A team like Sens will give up something for him because the market for teams that players hate are so limited.

Needless to say... the market is hot pile of extremely pricey garbage. Eager to see Devils trade Nemec for ROR though. Kings yet to fire their shot and if they use their old playbook they trade Brandt Clarke for a scoring winger and Clarke becomes a bonafide young #1D. I'd be dreading the coming hours as a Leafs fan, too.

sucks ottawa climbed into a playoff spot. Dont really want anything from the BRuins or below teams. if ottawa was out of it they may have been fooled into a desparation type move for once again missing the playoffs. Batherson would have been interesting or someone like that where a team is just shaking it up.

You know it's march again when you see Detroit Red Wings have lost 4 in a row.

They were 9 points up on us year ago at the start of march.

Might be a bit of awkward timing but Zegras is who I want at this point. So much skill on the player and with the locker room they have, there’s no reason to believe he wouldn’t fit in mid season. He’s a product of a crappy ANA environment and a stubborn coach in Cronin.

There was a WSH at ANA game (2019-2020) where rookie Zegras dominated. He was the best player on the ice and scored the OT winner. I think there’s a lot to unlock with this guy.

They need someone who can drive play in the top 6. Barring a ridiculous ask, a first round pick and one of Lapierre/Parasak/Miro should get it done.

We (Flyers) reportedly had a framework around Farabee and a 1st for Zegras last offseason (I believe) that apparently fell through.

I (and many others on our board) would like him in Philly for the right price but I think Torts (if, God forbid, he's here beyond this season) might actually need to be put on watch if he's forced to have Mr. Michigan himself on his roster.

Add Rantanen to the list of players who didn’t want to stay in Carolina along with the likes of Trochek, Dougie Hamilton, Jake Guentzel, Brett Pesce, Martin Necas, etc.

I know roster turnover is a thing, but I wonder if Rod rubs off the wrong way on more talented players. His relentless forechecking system is perfect for grinders but they really lack high end skill outside of Aho and Svechnikov (who could be argued has turned into a disappointment given his hype level and his early showings in the NHL).

Maybe Raleigh sucks, Rod sucks, the front office sucks — or maybe none of that is true and it’s just bad luck — but despite them being a team that consistently makes the playoffs, they do not seem like an organization players are dying to play for.

Watching Marchand in the 4 nations tournament and in a few other games - he isn't the player he was a few years ago IMO. I guess a second rounder would properly reflect that.

I'm really not sure there is a logical deal to be had for the Caps. Bring up Leonard and call it a day IMO.

Ovi has one last kick at the can and you want to bank it on a college player coming in. Good lord.
