Yeah I don’t see us picking top 5 or anything, that’s what a true tank looks like (exhibit A the Covid Season)

They're selling.
The team? Or assets off the roster in preparation for a complete overhaul?

If you like guys who are intense this is the player for you!

Sox are getting a good guy. Not sure if he'll ever be able to approach the level he was 2+ seasons ago, but I'll be rooting for him. I think he can be a good setup guy for Jansen.

Don’t know if Jansen will still be here by the time Hendriks comes back from TJ

They're selling.
Worse, they’re coasting

CBS Sports put out their latest " Top 50 MLB Prospects " list and 3 Red Sox prospects made the list.

17. Roman Anthony, OF, Red Sox (19 years old)

  • The short version: Showed power and on-base upside during breakout year.
  • MLB ETA: Late 2024
Here's one way to summarize Anthony's strength: Although he's a left-handed batter, nine of his 14 home runs last season were hit to either left or left-center field. That would be an impressive display of opposite-field power by anyone, let alone a player who was 19 for most of the year. Anthony has also shown a keen eye and has mostly kept his strikeout rates under 20% as a professional (his contact rate did crater in High-A, though it then rebounded once he reached Double-A). He could stand to put the ball in the air more frequently as a means of maximizing his slugging potential. Even so, it bodes well for him that he's sporting such a broad offensive skill set at such a young age.

20. Marcelo Mayer, SS, Red Sox (21 years old)

  • The short version: Capable shortstop with a capable bat.
  • MLB ETA: Late 2024
Mayer has long received praise from scouts for the fluidity of his defense. He's not the most explosive athlete. He doesn't have the most range or the strongest arm. But he makes up for those shortcomings with a feel for the position that should let him stick there. Offensively, Mayer had shown good strength and a fondness for taking walks until he hit a rough patch upon reaching Double-A. His season ended in early August, and it's likely that it impacted him on some level before he was shut down. We also have some concerns about how often he swings and misses, and about how frequently he pops up the ball. We'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now, but his stock is beginning to slip.

33. Kyle Teel, C, Red Sox (22 years old)

  • The short version: Two-way backstop on the fast track to the majors.
  • MLB ETA: Summer 2024
The Red Sox chose Teel No. 14 pick in last July's draft. Early indications suggest that could be a steal. The Red Sox pushed Teel right along after he debuted, tasking him with a nine-game stint in Double-A to close out the year. He hit .363/.483/.495 with one fewer walk than strikeout in 114 professional plate appearances. Teel is a well-rounded backstop with a strong arm and an appreciable feel for contact. Barring injury, he seems certain to debut in 2024.

FORT MYERS, Fla. — These days, talk is cheap with the Red Sox.
If it’s not the club’s three last-place finishes in the last four seasons, it’s the relative dip in payroll for the coming season.
There is also the consensus view of experienced observers and casual fans that the club is headed for another visit to the AL East cellar.
Little wonder, then, that on the first full-squad workout day of spring training, with top ownership milling around the back fields, Red Sox president and CEO Sam Kennedy opted for the “less said the better” tack when it came to saying anything to make fans feel better.
“It bothers us a lot,” said Kennedy about the wins-and-losses forecast for 2024. “We probably should just do less talking, because our frustration sometimes comes out and maybe in some less-than-articulate ways — and I’m talking about myself in that regard.

Liam Hendriks? Are you serious? Guy may have intensity but his arm is shot. And even before the elbow injury, the advanced metrics he was putting up before the injury looked as though he was going to have a terrible season. There's nothing to be excited about with this signing. It's just another example of the Red Sox refusing to pay for pitching. Again.

Are you talking about the advanced metrics he posted in the five whole innings he pitched last year after recovering from cancer? Those advanced metrics?

Gotta say, it was definitely weird to see Werner at Jagr's jersey retirement the other night. I can only hope the sale thing can become a reality.

Iglesias has an OPS+ in the 80’s, I wouldn’t call him a capable bat

Mayer is a lefty who has 20+ home run pop. If he’s iglesias with the glove I’m more than happy with that. I personally think he ends up a little better than average defensively at SS. That + 20 home runs at that position is an all star caliber player.
