We have been one of the worst teams ever statistically and the softest roster in team history. This year is more of the same. Also imo missed a chance a to draft a franchise center who happens to play a style missing. What positive is there exactly? I guess some of the offensive dmen this team is loaded with are close to being in the NHL what else?

I'm with you on the team being horrific and still pretty dang soft (although that's getting better) but Carlsson has looked pretty great so far this pre-season.

These are the guys I'm keeping an eye on this year. Soft ranking positions atm but as you can see only one forward over 6' and he is probably is out of the top 10 which is definitely where we will be picking.

I like a lot of the names on this list, not that they are particularly top 10 guys but, I would add Hemming, Jecho, Connelly, Howe and Skahan. All interesting players.

Greentree and Cristoforo have also played well when I’ve watched Dionicio. Christoforo hasn’t offensively blown me away when watching Windsor but I didn’t even realize he was a first time draft eligible, his game looked rather mature.

This draft is supposed to be deep so we should get a couple good players out of it

Silayev only has 1 point in 9 games, coming back down to earth from his 6 point in 6 game start.
But, he is still getting 18-19 minutes a game as a 17 year old in the KHL. I'm sure his size/skating will propel him way higher then we will be able to get with perhaps a mid-late 1st we add at the deadline, but that would be the dream.

Demidov seems like a Michkov-lite. Hockeysense off the charts, great shot, great vision, good skating in tight spaces. Hopefully he gets on a different KHL team like Michkov did where he can actually play.

Demidov got injured and is out for 2.5 months combine that with Russian factor and his limited play time in the KHL and he will drop out of the top 3 IMO probably 8-15 pick.

Silayev is top 5 IMO. His size and what he is doing in the KHL will make someone grab him early even though he is Russian too.

Stop the tease... I don't want to be let down again... we better just focus on guys outside the top 5.

- Berkly Catton (although he is ascending, but profiles like another two-way Zach Benson)
- Kosta Helenius

But both of these guys are sub-6'0 and I think our draft history shows that we stray away from small players with high picks. There are a ton of small offensive d-men too but it would be a bit ridiculous to add another Mews, Parekh, Hutson, Kiviharju type into our defensive pool.

So maybe we go for other ascending guys like Silayav, Ryder Ritchie, Trevor Connelly (Tustin kid?), or Cayden Lindstrom.

Do you feel let down by our recent early picks?

Here's a few early 2024 NHL mock drafts. That way you can see who's projected to be in the first round and keep track of them throughout the season. I'm keeping my eye out for RW Emil Hemming to rise from the bottom of the first round to the teens.

So that means that the drafts will no longer be done in person and everything is done remotely? No longer a big event?

It will be like the NFL or NBA draft. All the players will be there with their families, but the teams will be back at home in their war rooms.

And Bettman gets to shine the spotlight on himself even more.

That is kind of a bummer. I feel like part of the reason for OC V!be was to lure the NHL here for a draft/all star game.

It sounds like it. Friedman and Marek were lamenting this on their podcast. They like the visibility of the event and they talked about how a lot of young people who want to get involved in the sport can come to watch, but also to try to get plugged in somewhere. That will be lost with a decentralized draft.

Although they talked about maybe the NHL replacing it with a convention like the NBA does. I hate that the NHL is so cheap on these things. It saves money in the short-term but costs in the long-term.

The teams sitting next to each other stifled their ability to do deals and even discuss who to draft since everything could be overheard

Here's an early jump on who to keep track for a potential first round pick with "A" ratings from Central Scouting's preliminary 2024 ratings.

Historical note: Luneau received an A-rating from Central Scouting Pre-lim ratings, but fell out of the first round ratings during the season.

I was hoping to hear more of Emil Hemming, but it was just a short blurb you.

A few weeks ago, MyNHLdraft had Hemming in the late 20s. At this Oct 31st update, he's moved up to 19th. If we continue being around .500, then we're looking around the teen range. Hemming could be that top-6 RW we're looking for.

Cool note, there are only 3 2005 born players in the top 16 of EP top 32 right now.
Compare that to last year, there were 5 2004s in the top 9.

In fact, half of the top 10 are less then 2 months away from being 2025 draft eligible, including Celebrini and Eiserman, who is only 2 weeks from being a 2025 draftee.

Just to show how unusual that is, the 2022 NHL draft only had 4 guys drafted in the 1st round that fell in that category. Very weird to see young guys doing so well/hyped so much.

Edit: Just looked an Pronman's list and he has as many Russians in the 1st round then Americans, 6. 5 of which are in the KHL/MHL.

San Jose I think that's fair, but in my view anyway I think Pittsburgh is better than their current record indicates.

Here's hoping I am wrong!
Yeah, doesn’t look like they’ll get to the playoffs but atm I would bet they end up in the 8-12 range, similar range to where the Ducks will be, conservatively.

Who are some players of interest for everybody currently?

One that’s started to perk my interest in Cayden Lindstrom. Big, power game, goal scoring, and decent skater from what I’ve read, could be a good fit imo.
