From strictly an NHL draft perspective, I think you can crazy good value with drafting Russians right now potentially.

Do you see how good Michkov has looked this year? Pretty crazy that Philly got a player like that at #7. Daniil But has done well so far this year too.

Agreed. Pennies on the dollar.

True. If it would have been normal year Michkov would have not dropped past 4th pick. Arizona really didn't show any fear, first Simashev and then But.

Pretty silly to claim that you made a good pick on the stock market when you’re not allowed to cash out on it for 5 years.

Who are the best goalies? Where would you rank them round wise?
Very weak goalie class, maybe throw a dart in the last round or two on someone you think has tools. I don't really see much of anything that looks interesting to me and that is pretty much reflected on any rankings you look at.

I was pretty optimistic on this kid going into the year, but he has been pretty bad this year. On a very bad team though, which doesn't help - Eric Olsson at eliteprospects.com

Depending on what your goal is... If your goal is to get the best player possible 5 years from now, then no.

Things long term investors do might look dumb to day traders. I think the NHL draft would be more of the former and less of the latter.

Maybe 1 of these 2?

Time to start reading up on the draft again...

Kid I really liked going into the year blew the doors off the WJAC for USA (after doing the same at the Hlinka) in Trevor Connelly.

For a player that could be available in our range, I think he has really good upside. I've heard some people say he carries the puck too much and tries to do too much by himself, but I feel like people said the same kind of things with Barzal.

He is an interesting option in our range, but I know very little about him and his style of play apart from the WJAC reviews.

I know it's just clips, but I think it's a good sign that he's cutting to the middle and funneling offense to the net.

Do you think he projects more as center or wing?

Someone in the second round I think we should look at if available would be Matvei Gridin. Committed to UofM next season.

Anyone know anything about Dan Letourneau? I know he’s big but that’s about it

Not sure if he ends up a center or wing, doesn’t really change if I’d draft him or not. Just think he’s a very talented kid who I was high on going into the year and has impressed me anytime I’ve seen him play for USA.

If you are looking for a high upside forward that could be available in the teens, he fits the bill from what I’ve seen.

On paper I’m really interested in him, but I haven’t seen enough of him to have an opinion.

Same, paperwise, scouts mention nothing but positives. I haven't seen any tapes, which I hope not a lot of scouts have either lol.

Connelly is very talented.

Kids are stupid, but I wonder if this effects his draft status.
His apology and the way he is trying to make up for his mistake and serious lack of judgement is what most of these idiotic teenagers should be doing when they f*** up.

His apology actually seems sincere, he honestly seems to be trying to better himself, and he is owning his mistake. This shouldn't effect his draft stock.

I agree. But, then again, this is something teams look at.

Ok some teams look at.

It sounds like he is truly apologetic and knows he f***ed up. Kind of the opposite of a guy like Miller.
Don’t see this impacting his stock.

If he’s got high ceiling we should go after him. Another guy i like with creativity and offensive potential is Basha.

Could actually affect it positively. Ability to acknowledge mistakes, don't try to sneak out of it, learn from it, talk about it..

If I'm the GM and in an interview he can clear the last doubts that he is just a good actor - then it's probable more of a plus in terms of character evaluation.

What are the areas of biggest need in the organization?

An understanding that you either have to play your prospects when they get ready, or you should've traded the pick for some kind of upgrade in the first place.

What do we do? Draft the players and then block spots for them with overpaid vets. Brilliant..

This late bloomer is really interesting guy to watch at U20 WJC.

Went undrafted at last draft. 6'7 or something, could still be growing. Quite skilled and nice moving GIANT defenceman.

Plays for Finland U20 at 1st pair.

One interesting note was that on his last games (back-to-back) at finnish 2nd level, he logged 26 minutes on 1st day and 38 minutes on the 2nd day.

After that he was promoted to Liiga, and plays for JYP on their overall strong defence at 2nd pair.

Next two weeks are really going to determine if I'm going to have to start paying to this stuff again.

Let's go Red Wings!
