This late bloomer is really interesting guy to watch at U20 WJC.

Went undrafted at last draft. 6'7 or something, could still be growing. Quite skilled and nice moving GIANT defenceman.

Plays for Finland U20 at 1st pair.

One interesting note was that on his last games (back-to-back) at finnish 2nd level, he logged 26 minutes on 1st day and 38 minutes on the 2nd day.

After that he was promoted to Liiga, and plays for JYP on their overall strong defence at 2nd pair.
I’d like to get this guy and Dan Letourneau. Of course the only scouting criteria I use is size

Im liking this Michael Brandsegg-Nygård kid. Seems like our type of player.
I'm all for it if he is there when we pick. I'll be real curious to see what Bob's mid-season ranking looks like it when it comes out.

I also like the WHL kids (Iginla, Catton, Ritchie) and the Finns (Helenius/Hemming) and then I have liked Trevor Connelly for awhile now.

MBN almost has everything we need in a winger. He's got the size, the strength and the shot. I dont know if he has the snarl.

Sure - here’s what I wrote for Brock Otten’s Import Draft review about Nygård:

“Nygård is the most hyped Norwegian prospect, probably ever. He and fellow import draft selection Stian Solberg headline what is poised to be the best draft class in Norway’s history. Both players have potential to be first rounders come draft day - A feat that would be huge for the nation of Norway who’s highest NHL draft pick was Marius Holtet, who went 42nd overall in 2002. There are 3 defining attributes to Nygård, and that his IQ at both ends of the rink, his Motor, and his shot. Nygård is an extremely intelligent forward, he reads and reacts to plays at a high level, always positioning himself well to create offence in the offensive zone, or nullify it in the defensive end. His shot is excellent, if he is able to get time and space within 10 feet of the goal mouth, he’s going to make the other team pay more often than not, he is good at picking spots from in tight and isn’t afraid of getting his nose dirty. Then there is his motor, watching him, you’ll never see him give up on a play, he always has his feet moving trying to do whatever he can to help out. If Barrie is able to get Nygård over, that would be a massive get, he should come in and produce right away. He should spend the majority of the season playing against men with Mora IK, in the Swedish second division, however just like with Eduard Sale, things can change in a years time.”

Honestly, if I were to compare him to anyone, it’d probably be Nate Danielson.

He has snarl

He has snarl

Nice to see, I'd still argue that's he's just bullying swedes in a junior league. Yes its clear he's an absolute ox , does he have that ability to be a tkachuk level asshole I dont know how you'll know that until he plays over here.

People are born with that ability, he has it or he doesn't and usually it shows in early age. Watch Norway's remaining games and you get your answer. Bu we really need that ability, big organizational need.

I like MBN but I’d like us to prioritize offensive creativity and skill more. That is what we are lacking the most in our prospect pool.

Basha and Artamonov are my two favorites in the mid first round.

Awful news, but hoping we get a chance at him in the draft now, especially if there aren't any good forwards available when we pick.

If we draft a defenseman, i hope it's Carter Yakemchuk. If it's a forward, im still in the Michael Brandsegg-Nygård train. We have enough small and soft players, get some actual grit and toughness and stop the cheap shots.

Have you ever watched Jiricek? He isn’t a soft player at all

Buch Nasty was a high end skill guy drafted in the second and he is playing well in the KHL. Just not sure when we will ever see him.

Wouldn't sleep on younger Dower-Nilsson either, now that he is healthy again.

We have some, but I get the want for the next first rounder to go that way.

I think he will come over when his contract is up, for the 25/26 season

That's not a problem at all. He is a small guy and let him mature there. It has been a long ride, at first getting to men's level and now developing and targeting a top line role on future seasons. So far he isn't there. He has to be a top line KHL player and one of the league-best scorers, before even thinkin NHL.

I would be be pissed of in a different case with some real talent like Michkov, who could already be NHL-ready, and not getting him over the pond.

As much as I’d like to get a forward with the top pick, if Jiricek or Yakemchuk was their when we are on the clock, I don’t think I could blame them for going that route.

I think we could get a pretty good defenseman in round 2 though if we take a forward with the top pick. I’d be very happy to get Jiri’s son in round 2 or I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Kiviharju ranked outside the first in some recent rankings.
