DeBrusk situation hopefully resolved prior to October. Sign long term or trade him before season starts

Why before the season starts? They could get a great return for him at the deadline if they don’t feel like they can re-sign him.

Because if they’re in the playoff hunt Sweeney will not sell. See Eriksson, Krug. He can’t lose DeBrusk for nothing. He’s an asset, either signed or traded.
Ya but the poster above u stated, “why not wait until the deadline when u can get more?”

Trades are hard to make now and the ones that were made were for peanuts. I’d rather wait until the deadline as well. if this team is a top 5 team this season I’d keep him. if he doesn’t resign oh well. U have to try and win now always imo. Losing to win is the stupidest way to build a team. So if the bruins are still one of the premier teams at the deadline they will probably be buyers not sellers. And I know this isn’t popular opinion around here but I do think this team is still going to be elite.

The core has a lot of young pieces that I consider game changers.
Mcavoy
Lindholm
Pastrnak
Carlo
Zacha
Debrusk
Swayman
Ullmark(if 29 is young?)

That’s a lot of really nice pieces to work with. It’s really hard to imagine this team falling off that far. Bergeron probably resigns. So losing krecji and hall probably isn’t going to be a big deal. They are fine with out both players. Even with out my favourite player ever (Bergeron) I still think this team is very competitive.

Like Ullmark to be gone by July 1??
I mean, it seems like he almost was, you can assume who was involved in the trade but Freidman reported that the Bruins requested a last second interview with OIiver Moore because there was a pending trade to get into the 1st round. Only players we'd consider trading with that value of a return are Ullmark or DeBrusk.

That's it, exactly. If he's not willing to sign long term they need to move him and get assets and they sure in the hell are not going to move him if their in the hunt, not a chance. My guess is he wants to test the market and return to Alberta, but hopefully Sweeney knows what his true intentions are and either gets him re-signed or sent packing.

I vaguely remember Sweeney saying 50 times his goal for the offseason was to get younger and build around his young core with similarly aged players.

He has done borderline the exact opposite this offseason and this would be another step in the wrong direction.

The caveat being Debrusk still wants out and won’t sign an extension
I can never take anything management says with more than a grain of salt at this point, especially after the years of the Bruins preaching about character and lockerroom (bypassing skill along the way), then going ahead and signing Mitchell Miller despite the lockerroom not wanting him, too...

More or less, GM speak is GM speak, actions always speak louder than words.

One of the best defensive and F/O centers in the league. Consistent player that can play 2nd line Center, PK, and PP. Debrusk is a one dimensional player. A player added by the Islanders would be icing on top.
He's a 3rd line player getting paid 5 mil/year for 3 more years, he will be 31 in December, no thanks. Furthermore he is an undersized player who tries to play big, it will not age well. Debrusk should be part of the Bruins core going forward, he is not one dimensional, he plays both wings equally well, kills penalties and can score, he has far more value then an older depreciating player like Pageau.

He's not though. He's not the guy from our series against Ottawa back in the day. Feel like too many are taking that series and projecting the player, when he's never scored more than 42 points in a season, and his defensive metrics have fallen off badly. And for $5M? No thanks.

Hes quite literally Coyle. 3rd Line C. Around 40 Points at most. 5 mil contract.

Would you trade Coyle for Debrusk?

The Bruins have reached their quota on bottom 6 centers that can play in the top 6 for a game or two. Not sure if I’d call a forward that can play both wings and special teams while scoring 25+ goals one dimensional, he isn’t Michael Ryder.

Pageau is nice but not at 5M per season. Would rather just pay JDB 5M.

When it comes to trading JDB I don't trust Sweeney. We have no prospects, and no picks. We lost two top 9 wingers and our top 2 centers' for nothing (if Bergy and Krejci don't return). Now we are talking about trading a cost effective player who is productive in the post-season for what? Most of the talk seems to be for similar cost players, not prospects.

At the moment we are back to being a 1.5 line team (or worse).

Marchand - Coyle (3rd line Centre) - Debrusk
JVR (scrap) - Zacha (3rd line Centre) - Pastrnak

Removing Debrusk takes this from bad to very bad. Pasta is already going to have to hold up an entire line by himself.

Ya I guess should really take it with a grain of salt. That end of the year press conference was all Sweeney talking about getting younger and building around the younger core. Sure he added geekie, but all he’s done besides that is sign guys on their last legs before retirement.

I can see it from the perspective of trying to reset the cap, but if the bruins are really trying to trade Debrusk for pageau+ then I’m seriously questioning the direction he’s going in

3 guys that would be great to get IMO.

1) Travis Konecny is a RW that can play some Centre. Feisty player that could compliment Marchy well. Could bring similar play to Bert.

2) William Nylander C/RW. I know it is a long shot but if there was anyway we could pull this off it would be awesome. He could be moved back to Centre to play with his old pal Pastrnak. Toronto is in a jam. It would probably take moving Ulmark somewhere.

3) Mark Scheifle. C and 40 goal scorer who plays with snarl. Tough to make happen given his cap number and probable asking price.

William Nylander has taken 147 faceoffs in his last 214 regular season games.

Ryan O'Reilly in his 13 regular season games with Toronto took 184 faceoffs for comparisons sake.

Nylander is not a center.

Travis Konecny has taken 109 faceoffs in his last 189 regular season games.

Derrick Brassard took 308 faceoffs in 31 games for the Flyers for comparison sake.

Konecny is not a center.
