If that's the case maybe we can claim Barron back on waivers in 12 months time and make a player out of him like Graves :naughty:
good idea.

By the way there is an article on the Hockey News (wouldn't post for me ) on the Avs cap situation going forward after the Toews signing.

It's pretty much what you said to a T. Avs will be over roughly 500k but with the cap going up 4 mil it leaves about 3.5 to play with.

It would certainly be exciting but I dont see any way we could do it, not unless A) Francouz is done for the year and B) Kane takes like $1M or something comically low.

Plus, where does he fit? I feel like if the Avs didn't sign Tatar, maybe there's a chance Kane could have been the option but with the Tatar signing now we have very little cap space(Even with Frank on LTIR), and no roster spot.

Ok so just looked at it on Cap friendly and with this lineup:

Drouin - Mack - Mikko
Nuke - RyJo - Kane
Lehky - Colton - Tatar
Wood - Oloffson - Cogs
LOC

Toews - Makar
Byram - Girard
Johnson - Manson
MacDermid

George
Prosvetov

We could have $2,525,000 in LTIR space to sign Kane. So I guess it is within the realm of possibility honestly. $2.5M seems fairly reasonable for Kane if he wants to win as suggested. The key being Francouz done for the year though, or at least if not done, traded away when he returned.

The depth here would be pretty nuts, but ultimately the teams success in the playoffs would still entirely hinge on RyJo and Colton at Center. I dont think Kane is that level of a difference maker anymore to where he could carry a 2nd line on his own.

If Frank is out for the season... the Avs need to replace him directly first. Prosvetov has upside, but I really wouldn't want to rely on him for 25+ games and potentially in the playoffs if George got hurt.

Just stick Kane in some goalie gear for the games that George needs to rest in. Everything else will fall into place.

That joke doesn't work on the grounds that Kane is quite possibly the single worst defensive player in professional hockey. You'd be better off getting Katie Gaus to suit up. At least she would put in an effort.

I mean theoretically Kane would come in and replace Drouin in the top 6 I’d imagine.

God this Kane discourse is a billion times worse than the Drouin one ever was...

I really don't see him as much more than a power play specialist at this point, and even healed up I don't think we'll see him return to form. If he proves me wrong so be it but I just don't get the hype at this point.

Just get a backup for the playoffs. Shouldn't be too hard to make the cap work as you can retain up to 75% to bring the cap down to $775k or less which makes any goalie with up to ~$3m aav viable.
