Imagine that. A #2C for cheap.
and for free. He was signed as an UFA the summer that Kadri walked.

Real 2C hitting the market are rare. I understand not going after Danault because we had Kadri but this one hurts more.

Trocheck was never signing here. He's played his entire career in the East, he's from Pittsburgh, and it was clear early on he would only sign in the East unless he was stupidly overpaid by the Avs. Key word being stupidly as it would f*** us over big time cap wise.

If you're paying that price that question needs to be answered minutes after the trade has taken place with an announcement of an extension.
Lots of Lindholm talk, but how would the Avs sign him? He's probably a $8M per player. They'd have to move a couple of solidly salaried players out, even without taking Landeskog into account.

As Henchy and others have laid out, Lindholm only makes sense as a rental. And considering there will probably be other bidders that are looking to give him the Horvat deal of "way too much money for way too many years" for someone who will soon be on the wrong side of the aging curve, I don't see how we'll be in play for him. Or why we'd want to be for that matter.

2, or 3C would be my preferred pickups. Johansen and Colton could slide to the wing if need be.

If centre isn’t workable, then scoring wing please. Kovalenko coming over lessens the need at wing though as imo, the Avs are planning to put him right into the lineup.

Wow it has been a while since I watched hockey night in Canada. Nothing like a hit song from 1988 to get me in the mood for hockey? Poison sucks.

Who cares what position Rantanen plays? He is a top 10 player in the league and you don't get rid of guys like him.

Lindholm and whatever depth we would get from Rantanen makes us considerably worse than us without Rantanen.

Adding a 2C for the sake of it and losing Rantanen is probably not the best buisness model.

The goal is to keep our star players not ship them out.
Exactly, trading Rantanen away the most bizzare line of thinking.
Even trading him for Petterson is at best sidegrade, swapping one 100 point player for another. Suggesting trading him for Lindholm is downright laughable.

I agree. You should only trade elite player for elite player, if we didn't need this elite player in this position, for example Leafs/Oilers blew all their money on offense and didn't spend it on defense. Makes a worse team than balancing out the team. We don't have that same issue.
