Hypothetically, would you (as Flyers GM for this year) sign Kane or Tarasenko for 1 year, 8-9 million deal knowing that they're just going to be flipped at the deadline?
In addition to other reasons, 8-9 millions with 50% retention is still 4-4.5 millions, contending teams don't have that much cap space at the deadline, so you're gonna need a third team in the deal which makes it more complicated.

So playing catchup...

We traded a guy but he really isn't traded yet.

We signed a goalie last year, but the contract tolled to this year due to Russia, but now they think that contract has been fulfilled.

We signed a goalie this year, but he isn't coming this year and is in Russia

Our top prospect is in Russia for 3 years but don't worry, they will let him go no issue.

We may or may not have re-signed a Dman
To be fair, Kolosov is in Belarus, not Russia, so there's no problem there. :sarcasm:

Schrödinger's offseason.

If Briere wants to make a statement that it's his team, he'd at least use the cap savings from York/Cates to go long-term with Frost on a deal that could be a steal 2-3 years from now. Briere is the chief proponent of Frost in the organization, so bet on it.

Unlike O'Connor, so confident Frost is bad on the PP, Frost's PP work has thrived at every level, and I believe that's the player with the most scoring meat on the bone -- at every strength. It's almost like the PP coaching and usage has been a league worst mangling.

If they further bridge Frost, so he can prove until age 35 he's not a toilet seat to John Tortorella, the person wearing the pants in roster control becomes that much clearer. There's Michkov, there's Konecny (who might not be here in 12 months), and then there's Frost in my ranking of most purely skilled players in the organization.

Hey, don’t know where to put this, so hopefully this thread is correct. What’s the story with Couturier? He’s good to go, right? I’ve read the stories saying he was pushing to play some games at the end of last year. That didn’t happen, but is the plan for him to be back to normal come training camp? Thanks in advance.

I'm waiting to see a healthy Brink.

He was medically cleared to play in late March, but the team held him out.

You guys think konecny goes point/game again next year? Does Laughton go to wing mostly this year?

One would think Couturier, Cates and Frost will be the top 3 centers with Laughton mostly on the wing. Of course, Frost hasn't even signed yet.

And then on top of this, if Hart is found out to be one of the guilty ones in the Hockey Canada scandal, you could bet your ass he's going to be straight up terminated. Probably would run with Petersen and Ersson for goal next season.

You're assuming you can get players to sign for a significant discount right now with the cap going up.
Given Frost has 56 games of 2C like play, what would you pay him long-term? As much as Farabee who grossly outperformed Frost from age 19-22?

How are they going to work in younger players after the deadline?

Ideally all of Walker, Staal and Seeler should be gone to make way, but do we really believe they will do it? I bet they keep Seeler (or extend him)

Andrae should be getting a real shot, but are they going to run with 8 d?

Forward wise, where is Brink or someone else fitting in? Maybe if Poehling is traded at the deadline, Desnoyers can be 4C, but it is neither optimal F or D prospect development

(I am assuming Foerster is 3rw and Hathaway 4 rw)
