Stienburg officially off the reserve list. I'd say odds are high he won't get signed by the Avs at this point, but technically, all that lapsed was exclusive rights so he can still be signed. Rangers were very high on Stienburg in his draft year, so that is one place to watch (though they are deeper than the Avs so the path is more difficult to the NHL). Dallas is another team I'd expect to sniff around.
Was looking at this list I sent yesterday and the one CF posted today about rights being lost for more players. Was just curious cause you said Avs might try to sign someone. Doesn’t look like a whole lot out there but def some decent looking options. Nothing Earth shattering but some out there I liked their numbers.

I know they'll sniff around one in particular, but I'd think there are at least 3 names they'll check in on. I have doubts they'll sign more than 1 ELC though... an extra AHL deal or two sprinkled in.

Who are the Avalanche sniffing around?

I try not to make these things public. I don't always succeed in stopping myself.

Shouldn't be hard to figure out though, only 6 or 7 of these names really have a shot in the AHL and only 3 or 4 of those really have the upside of an ELC. One just signed and I'd bet the Avs checked in, but he was set on Boston.

It seems that Avs want to give him the bare minimum to the point of an AHL contract and Stienburg is overvaluing himself that he deserves an ELC of other third-round picks.
It is more Stienburg wants an under the table promise of NHL games like Ranta got... and the Avs are not budging. Basically calling his bluff saying if you can find that promise, good for you. If not and you're willing to work... we're here.

Let's just sign Steinberg. Not sure why we care that much about another ELC, we have the room. Give him some under the table promise to play in the preseason lol

I can't see how this is a good sign.

Feels like something's either missing from this story or lost in translation.

Doesn't make a lot of sense that he went from, “It’s going to be a big step for me, to go from juniors to a pro league.......it’s going to be a new start for me, just to get better and just excited about that year.”

And, “He’s got a net over there, so that’s a good spot for development for him, with men,”

To, “Ivan wanted to be number one, but he couldn’t stand the competition."

IMO the Avs sign too many guys that don’t have any real future and it makes it more complicated to sign those that do have some promise. IE they should have never signed Miner or Beaucage… there was zero upside to them. Just accept they were bad picks and move on. Don’t compound the issue for 3 more years.

I guess eating out of your own trash can makes it better? 🤷

I haven't seen any evidence that we've ever had issues signing ones that had potential due to contract restraints.. we just don't have a lot of those.

When players want paths and opportunities, you have a pile of garbage sitting in the AHL. It’ll make signing the free agents more difficult unless you make promises. I don’t think this is a big problem by any stretch… but I don’t like signing to just sign players. They have to have a purpose. Either potential or for a key role on the AHL team. Signing guys like Miner and Beaucage just keep the Avs from having better players in the AHL.

One purpose of re-signing guys for the AHL that probably won't make the NHL or play big roles in the AHL, is because they're good teammates.

Which helps build an environment where other more promising prospects can develop and learn to be good pros with good habits and good work ethic.

The Avs are big on character. This likely plays a big role in who they sign and who they bring back for the Eagles.
