If we do that then the team probably doesn't trade Timo and then we're in a way worse position.
Or Grier could have decided to trade Timo and Reinhart (and gotten a haul). It would have still been a good trade in terms of value IMO.

Trouba a worthwhile gamble? Pluck an asset (re-Walman)

I looked into his underlying metrics and they weren't as awful as I was expecting.

Good skating physical 6'3 RHD that brings a tonne of leadership and swagger/confidence to empower our young guys.

JFresh card doesn't like him but so far this season amongst their top 6 D he's ranked--

2nd in expected GA/60 only behind K Miller
4th in HDCA
4th in SCA/60

He is riding favorable PDO, but that's compounded with the lowest rates of OZone starts on the team. He tanks tough match-ups and does okay against them. Also the risk of a <2 year deal is mitigatable.

Would help with the LHD/RHD disparity heading into next season as well with some permutation of (RHD): Liljegren, Trouba, Thompson | (LHD): Walman, Ferraro, Cagnoni/Mukhamadullin

Although, maybe he isn't down. Allegedly rejected the chance to go to Detroit last summer.

Reinharts numbers would have been on par with what he was doing in Buffalo (20-25 goals) than what he was doing on a stacked Florida team. Maybe we end up with a late first and a B prospect as a rental last year because no way he re-signs with the sharks.

Trouba has been discussed ad nauseum in this thread. Do a search and read pages and pages on it.

I will just remind everyone, again, that Trouba's wife has a medical residency in NY. They don't want to go anywhere right now. When that residency ends, maybe, but for now he has been clear he doesn't want to move. He's on an M-NTC right now, and I'm sure that includes SJ. He'd have to waive the NTC, but for those personal reasons, it's not happening. He could be waived right now and the Sharks claim, but right now the Sharks actually don't have enough cap space for him.

It's only realistic to consider Trouba to the Sharks when he becomes a UFA in the 2026 offseason. Then I'm sure we'll get a ton of discussion as to whether the Sharks should sign him as a "veteran presence" or something.

I thought his wife’s residency was done after this year and he’d be open to waiving next offseason.

The Sharks absolutely have cap space. They can go into LTIR with the $15 million in Couture and Vlasic.

That would have changed the fabric of the franchise too much to even speculate where we would be today. I'm OK in this reality

I'd be very uncomfortable with a Ferraro - Liljegren pairing from a zone exit standpoint
One of Liljegren's apparent skills is DZ puck recoveries and exits. Someone posted one of his player cards and those two skills were his top skills.

Toronto fans seem to disagree, so it'll be interesting to see how he looks in SJ, but I think anything will be an upgrade over Rutta and Ferraro will hopefully be able to play a bit more in his lane if he has a partner who can actually recover pucks, create space, and generate a clean exit.

As a sidenote, I thought that by the eye test, all of our players did a better job last night on being patient and finding the right zone exit play. That said... we were playing the Hawks, and their forecheck maybe wasn't as effective as an actual good NHL team would be.

We exited the defensive zone last night?

Guys, I didn't think this deserved a new thread, but what is up with Kostin. Many on the Oilers board would love to have the guy back, but healthy scratched recently? What is up with him?
