Guys, I didn't think this deserved a new thread, but what is up with Kostin. Many on the Oilers board would love to have the guy back, but healthy scratched recently? What is up with him?
Simply hasn't been that good. He had every opportunity to win a spot with Celebrini from the start of camp and lost it due to lazy, inconsistent play. Same old Kostin, nothing new. Guy doesn't seem to have any interest in playing when things aren't going his way to the extent that he's detrimental. Talented, but I understand why coaches hate him.

He's just not actually any good. I'll accept a signed Zach Kassian jersey for him.

I have a real pet peeve about fans calling players “trash.” I get it if a player is bad, whatever, but “trash” is so aggressive and dehumanizing. Seems unnecessary. 🤷🏻‍♂️
It’s sports talk, if you think the fans are bad you should listen to old sound bites of Bryan Trottier calling Bellows a tit f***er 😂

Some notable line changes here, Cardwell taking Guschin's spot on the second line, Dellandrea back on the 4th line possibly means he is returning to the lineup Saturday (EDIT nvm Dellandrea can't return until Sunday from IR I think), Guschin on the "5th" line might mean he is being scratched? And of course they seem to be keeping the Ferraro-Rutta pairing for some reason they love it....Thrun is paired with Liljegren, Thompson seems to be the odd man out. PP1 looks the same but Liljegren seems to be taking the PP1 QB spot, I agree to try him out there and see how he looks

G Smith?

If Dellandrea is back then a forward will need to be sent down unless someone is hurt enough to be on IR. I don’t get sending G Smith down just to have Guschin sit in the press box, but we will see.

One can only hope they're easing Liljegren into the lineup rather than actually liking the Ferraro-Rutta pair...
That pair has gotten a lot of penalty kill minutes. However we feel about them, there's nothing that suggests to me that Warsofsky is losing patience with Rutta. I would like to see a Thrun-Thompson pairing personally and Rutta being the swing guy.

Ferraro-Rutta is staying together because it doesn't make sense to deploy Ferraro-Liljegren or Thrun-Rutta as a shutdown pair.

do you guys think cardwell's graduating from the AHL with this stint or is he going down once dellandrea and celebrini get back. i'm pretty torn. i feel like he's good enough to cycle in at the very least but there's no reason to have him not play in the AHL.

Interesting that Liljegren is on PP1 over Walman, we've actually had a top-half PP% without Celebrini in the lineup so that's a surprising change to make, Walman has been effective there

One thing I do really like about Wario is that he doesn't have the typical "we won last game so absolutely nothing about the lineup can change" mentality that most coaches seem to have, it looks like he's always trying to maximize his lineups if he sees room for improvement

My guess is he wanted to try it out in practice and/or it's also a way to give Lily a place to shine early. Walman could still see the PP1 time, will see tomorrow!

This very well may be the thinking. I'd still like to see Lily and Ferraro but if we never do, you're probably right as to why.

My thought is with the barracuda playing the way that they are, Cardwell will fit in easily, but I think that Smith is not going to fit in as well.

I think he gets sent down with Ty healthy again.

My guess as well. I think they want to see what he can excel at and if he can be a PP guy even if it's on the second unit. All about evaluation and chemistry. I doubt Wallman's spot is in jeopardy.

I would bring Cardwell permanentely next season, he has shown some good flashes of full time bottom 6 player. I think it's important he gets more minutes in the AHL after we have to bump guys down.

Next season (Granlund signs for couple of years):
Eklund - Celebrini - FA
Granlund - Smith - Toffoli
FA - Wennberg - Zetterlund
Goodrow - Bystedt/FA - Cardwell

Walman - FA
Ferraro - Liljegren
Mukhamadullin - Cagnoni or FA RD

Askarov
FA or Blackwood/Vanecek

Edit:
FA could also be through trade, but just FA looks better than FA/Trade.

Also forgot about Graf... He could fit in that 3rd line. But I don't know how many young players without NHL time will this team realistically ice.
In this projection there is already Bystedt, Cagnoni, Mukhamadullin, Cardwell. Maybe Cagnoni and Bystedt get another year in AHL.

I feel like next year will have a lot of rookies on a collision course to be NHL-ready all at once. Graf, Bystedt, Cardwell, Cagnoni, Dickinson, and maybe even Musty could all feasibly compete for jobs in addition to Celebrini, Smith, and Mukhamadullin (hopefully) already in place. If we draft Hagens or Martone, it could even be another teenager. It's a lot.

I really want to pencil Goodrow-Bystedt-Cardwell into the fourth line for next season, because I think Bystedt could even be okay in 4th line minutes right now and Cardwell obviously is too. Graf could feasibly find minutes on that third line.

Cagnoni is going to be more difficult to find minutes for, but that's a problem for Grier and not me. Dickinson could make things problematic if he takes that next step like I'm hoping too. Good problem to have, I suppose!

I can't imagine Grier being OK running a team that is that inexperienced...
