He lied about the terms of the draft pick

The organization releasing “we did everything we could”

Anyways even if they make a right move they can’t man up and own it

Terms of the pick just comes down to details. If he got them a bit wrong at first, *shrug* I see no reason for the GM to deliberately lie about them when he knows they'll become public in a matter of hours. Why bother?

Not sure if Don actually said "best we could" or "everything we could", but regardless, define it. In his mind Sweeney may well think they did, because even "everything" still only implies "everything reasonable" and not literally everything. So I'm ok with that too.

Let the record show that I've criticized Sweeney and the Bruins management more broadly on multiple occasions. I'm no apologist for them. I simply don't see that they've done anything majorly wrong here. If the reports are accurate, they offered Brad more than I would have. But they still couldn't find a 'landing spot', as Don would say, so they parted ways. Which to my mind in this case is how it should be. That's really all there is to it.

One other thing, at any point are we going to blame the architects of this team for this season?

I think they did a great job pulling the plug, but like usual with some groups I see players were out of shape, not focused, bad leadership, of course bad coaching, I mean they could only turn Geekie into a probable 25 goal guy and not Brazeau as well. Everyone should be catching strays here no?

To give Sweeney credit, in his presser he did say something along the lines of 'this is my fault/responsibility' or 'it's on me'. Which it is. But not just him. Plenty of blame to go around. From Neely to Monty to the other coaches to the leaders amongst the playing group, and probably more folk besides. Lots went wrong.

But it really looks like Don is going to get the opportunity to fix his mess. I'm 50/50 on whether he should but it is what it is. It is easy enough to assign the blame where it belongs but it doesn't necessarily mean that all those on whom it falls should be fired. What it shouldn't be is forgotten. If Sweeney and Neely do indeed survive this, then at the very least their amount of rope should now be significantly shorter. Turn the ship around, or be on your way. No more screw ups.

You think it’s over for him here ?
I’m confused where you stand on this.

Regardless, there is zero chance Marchy signs back with Boston. I usually like to use ‘IMO” in these cases but won’t here.

If he does come back, I will change my avatar to a sign that reads “I’m an arrogant dumbass”. That’s a promise.

Ask me how much sleep I’ll lose over the prospect of having to do that…….. Zero

I’m sure this is posted more legibly elsewhere. Full page goodbye from Brad in The Globe this am

Busy life with two young children, haven't been part of this backlash yet.

Marchy ain't coming back, and quite frankly I am ready to move on. Its time to wash away the "stink" of the prior leadership group. Legendary as they are and nostalgia as fun as it is to exist in. Outside of Tim Thomas dragging them across the finish line in 2011 they have failed to put it all on the line and get across the finish line in crunch time over and over again.

How many meltdowns on home ice over these 15-20 years? how many gm 6s and 7s lost at home and how many blown series (and almost blown series against the leafs?)

2009 2nd round gm7 at home - LOSS
2010 2nd round gm7 at home (blown series and gm 7 leads) - LOSS
2012 1st round gm7 at home - LOSS
2013 SCF gm6 at home (under 2 minutes left) - LOSS
2014 2nd round gm 7 at home - LOSS
2019 SCF gm7 at home (looking shellshocked after the 1st goal, all from the Marchand line change mind you) - LOSS
2023 1st round gm7 at home (blown series and gm 7 leads) - LOSS

all under the leadership of Chara, Bergeron, Krejci and Marchand (Brad not part of that 2009 and 2010 series I understand).

plus 2013, 2017, and 2024 against the leafs all almost blown 3-1 series leads.

Its time to move on, the era is over.

RE: the negotiation and all the reports flying left and right, we can be upset over the AAV, unwillingness to compromise on money or what not but at the end of the day a truly backstabbing move would have been trading him somewhere approved on his list without his input and getting more value. They sent him to the one place where he would go and let it go down to the wire before pulling the trigger.

So, Bruins offered 3 years at his current AAV and Marchand asked for a raise?
That’s what it sounded like, but he did say I think for the pay cut thing. What’s concrete from what he said is Bruins offered a 3 year deal they were off on AAV Marchand called for a face to face meeting. He asked for a compromise bruins said no and moved on. It sounds like they did trade him to where his agent requested. It also sounds like he really didn’t want to move until that meeting.
