Just because a few posters bang a drum for Drouin relentlessly does not make it a "fact" or "big possibility" as you've stated above.
Ok… seems like a weird thing to pick apart in the post. Perhaps I mis-stated how « big » the possibility is. That has very little to do with my response to the other poster.

Would I be surprised if they signed him, not at all.

Would I be surprised if they don’t even make contact with his camp, not at all.

But, regardless of whether there are people « banging the drum » for him, it appears that at least, at one time, the Avs were interested in him (Mackinnon draft) if you were to believe some of the fans on this board. Do they still like him? No idea.

Again, barring a trade, the Avs have limited cap space. They need a top 6 forward. I’m pretty sure they don’t want someone old. They want someone who can be cheap and can fit with the teams style of play. It’s be naive to think that Drouin isn’t at least a reasonable option on UFA day.

Time will tell.

Trade G for cap space.

Doesn't seem like the Avs will do it at this point but that's the move. I'd probably try to get a huge haul for Toews but that's not realistic. I think Colorado would prefer to use him as a rental over trading him. Even without EJ the defense still needs to be trimmed. Replace G with someone in the 1-2 mill range and than create another 3 mill in cap for the forwards.

I still do not quite get the Drouin love other than he played well with Nate a long time ago. I feel like Malgin could do the same thing….had good chemistry with Val. Not saying I would want to but it seems comparable. What am I missing on Drouin?

Avs are dumpster diving at this point. Drouin is a good pickup in that tier of players. Even if it's a longshot your basically hoping you can get him to play with more effort and fix the off the ice stuff. He still has major flaws as a player but getting a shot at playing with MacKinnon and that kinda role might turn things around.

It's like last years deadline when people didn't want player X and the Avs got nothing. There's not going to be an ideal player for every spot with our cap. Someone like Domi last year in the playoffs would have been alot better than alot of what the Avs were rolling out. Drouin is a longshot but better than some scrub who has zero potential.

The veteran winger arrived in Carolina last July when the Vegas Golden Knights traded him and defenseman Dylan Coghlan to the Hurricanes for future consideration (a.k.a. nothing). Unfortunately, he suffered a torn Achilles mere weeks into his Hurricanes tenure. Then on January 19, he suffered a second torn Achilles just two weeks after making his Hurricanes debut.
Not exactly the guy I would target. Two Achilles injuries in less than a year? No thank you. I'd rather sign Pat Kane or Tarasenko. Last 3 years he's played 48, 39, and 5 games.
