Rumor: 2023-2024 Trade Rumors and Free Agency: Off-season is in full swing

I would be fine rolling the dice on Patches. Hard to find an option with more upside in free agency.

You could honestly just rest him for the 1st half of the season too, if he needs more time to recover.

It’s not like the guy relies on athleticism. He’s a sniper, which is something the Avs could use.

Pacioretty has had 2 major achilles tears. I admire the perseverance but his career is finished.

See I think Engvall will get even more than Fast will because of his age, size and skating.

He is my favourite player from this UFA class but I think some team happily hands him 4x4.
Ouf that would be too much for the Avs for sure, I would think. He's still a gamble at age 27 with a career high 35 points a few years back...put up 30 points this year.

Him and Fast are pretty similar production-wise... I think they both get somewhere pretty close to what Haula signed for but I could be wrong.

Gotta get some scoring from the bottom six somehow. The problem with Patches and Drouin is that I can't really see either one endearing themselves to Bednar.
I think with the addition of Colton it kind of changes things for that 3rd line. Don't think Drouin would be a good fit there at all. He could be a good fit in the "shit we need a guy to play in the top-6 because we're really banged up" role that Malgin kind of played last year but I wouldn't pay a lot for that.

I'm hoping that with the addition of Colton there's a bit of an organizational shift in thinking for the bottom-6 whereas if those lines are not producing or in a slump, at least they are making things difficult for the other team and are hard to play against. That's what I've been hoping for, for a frikkin' long time. So then you probably don't get a guy like Drouin but try to get some guys that are a pain to play against.

Patches is done man. A 26 year old coming off back to back Achilles tears would give me a ton of hesitation. Nonetheless a 35 year old.
Maybe but what's the risk really? Especially if he's such a high chance he's done, that say he'll only get a $1M deal with maybe so games played bonuses...

If he works out, you're probably getting the best deal of the summer. Even in his 5 games with Carolina this year he scored 3 goals. If he can still play, he's probably going to score 25+ Goals again.

If he can't play.. We're already using LTIR for certain next year with Landy, so there's no accruing cap space for us all year. So we just stick Patches on LTIR with Landy and have his space for the deadline to get someone else.

EDIT: It just feels like the Avs are one of the best suitors to take that chance with him because we're A) A top contender which no doubt that'll be something he's looking for, and B) We're one of the few teams that know for certain we will be using LTIR next year regardless, and C) We have a need for a potential 25+ goal scoring top 6 winger.

Now that the draft is done, here's my wishlist:

Byram 3 x 4.5M
Colton 6 x 3M
Cogs 1 x 900k
Eller 2 x 2M
Nieto 1 x900k

Zucker/Killorn 3 x 4M
Drouin 1 x 1M
Really talk to Calgary about a Lindholm - Girard+ swap with Hanifin/potentially Z on the way out
/ trade G for a top 9 F + D replacement

Drouin - MacKinnon - Nuke
Lehkonen - Johansen - Rantanen
XX (Trade) - Colton - Zucker (imagine Colton - Johansen - Zucker 3rd line w/Lindholm??)
Nieto - Eller - O'Connor
Cogs

Toews - Makar
Byram - Manson
Trade/UFA - Trade/UFA (i.e. LD + Holl/Peeke/Klinberg)
JJ - Malinski

I mean what if he stays healthy but cant skate anymore? Or isn’t productive? I mean wasting 1mil could
be worse and there’s technically upside there… but coming back from two Achilles tears at 35 and being a 20 goal would insanely fortunate.

I think here's the plan I like the most right now:

- Bridge Byram: 2x$3.2l5M
- Long term for Colton: 6x$3.5M
- Re-sign Meyers: 1x$800k
- Re-sign Cogs: 1x$900k
- Trade 2024 1st + Olausson for Backlund @50%
- Sign UFA Connor Sheary 1x$1.5M
- Sign UFA Max Pacioretty 1x$1M(With $500k bonus for 25, 50, and 75 Games played up to $2.5M potential total)
- Sign UFA Connor Clifton 4x$2.5M

Roster for opening night:

Colton - Mack - Pacioretty
Nuke - RyJo - Rantanen
Sheary - Backlund - Lehky
Cogs - Meyers - LOC

Toews - Makar
Byram - Manson
Girard - Clifton
MacDermid

George Frank

Salary cap + LTIR: $89.8625M
Cap Limit: $89.8625M
Cap space: $0

$1M can be almost entire buried if it comes to that. I believe $950K can be buried in the AHL.

When we first got RyJo I thought maybe we were bringing him for the top-6 but maybe we'd still get Lindholm and then shift RyJo to wing. After all, a $4M RW playing in your top-6 is still pretty good.

But now to me things don't seem to be lining up that way. Down the middle will be Mack-RyJo-Colton and probably a UFA like Blueger.

I'm not convinced the Avs want to give up the necessary pieces to acquire Lindholm AND have to sign him to an 8 year x 8.5M contract. If that was in the cards, there was probably no better time than yesterday to pull off that move when you had those 3 picks in the Top-37. It's not impossible but I'd be pretty surprised if the Avs made a move like that.

I think the Avs want a goalscorer that could eventually or is really close to being a top-6 guy. A player like Oliver Wahlstrom comes to mind.

I really want a cheap deal for OEL to replace Girard (who we should trade for forward help). I also think perhaps we can get Tyler Johnson (retained) and another forward from Chicago.

I'm predicting Colorado is going to move Sam Girard in the next (2) days.

If Byram+Colton will cost roughly $8M combined, that leaves around $7M to be allocated towards a 6F, 9F, 6D, and (3) fourth liners.

The Avalanche could gamble on a number of ~$1M UFAs (i.e. Drouin, JVR, etc.), but that doesn't seem like their style. By comparison, were Colorado to move Sammy G, they'd have space for a proper top-6 and may be able to take on another "freebee" player (i.e. Johansen, Hall, etc.).

Calgary is about to be down (2) LHD's and desperately need players with term, so I could see them as an option for Sammy G. I could also see Carolina, who seem to be re-tooling their blue line this off-season; or potentially Seattle, if they miss out on EK65.

I predicted the Avs would add an RFA center, but I was way off on the player (Frost). Based on my past accuracy, expect Byram or Toews to be moved in the near future...

Or go full gamble:

Patches - Mack - Nuke
Lehky - RyJo - Mikko
Drouin - Colton - X (Engval?)
Cogs - Meyers - LOC

Toews - Makar
Byram - Manson
Girard - Clifton
MacDermid
