I think that unless Drouin wants to sign for super cheap ie PTO or less than $1M then he's unlikely to join the Avs. I think they'll bring in different types of players to play with Colton but I could be wrong.

Still Drouin put up 29 points last year in 58 games. I could see a team like Arizona being interested and they could afford to pay him more, give him a better spot in the lineup and offer a market with zero pressure to win. I could see him there on a $2.5M deal.
Something just tells me that if the Avs give him the opportunity to play with Mackinnon, he'll bite, even if it's under $2M. That said, I hope they work on a bigger deal for someone more proven like Konecny, Nylander, Arvidsson, Garland, etc., or sign a UFA like Pat Kane, or ROR.

The only logical reason is probably this:

I don't think I agree with the tweet...

I get what they're saying, but Pittsburgh added higher end talent. It was an ill-fated venture, but Gonchar, Palffy, and Recchi were all legit talents. Part of the problem was Palffy retired mid-season, as did Mario. LeClair was pretty washed, but no one knew that due to the lockout, and he still scored like 50 points due to a later season surge (iirc).

Hall feels like he's in the same bucket as the above guys, but overpaying both Foligno and Perry feels very stale. Just my $0.02.

I disagree with that statement - I agree with the first part of the sentence though he should be a 4th liner. He was a 3rd liner on last year's team.

It will be a huge failure if he's playing 3rd line minutes this upcoming season. I like him but he's a #11-#14 forward on any team. He hurts you less when he's playing under 10 mins per game. You can't have a guy on your 3rd line go on a 30 game scoreless streak especially when he's more of a scorer than a playmaker.

Your opinion just strengthens the argument that Colorado needs to move out salary (in my suggestion Girard).

I'm not advocating for O'Connor as a third liner, but the team will be extremely hard pressed to find an upgrade with only ~$7M in available funds to be spread out over 6 players (again, assuming Olofsson and MacDermid are not penciled into everyday roles).

I've seen people upset they didn't draft an RD instead of an LD, and others throwing out names for 3rd pair RD next year. I feel like everyone has forgotten about Sam Malinski.

He's no spring chicken like other prospects. He turned 24 the other day. He's two years older than Bo and the same age as Cale. Not sure if he'll need more seasoning.

I think they gave him that AHL stint to evaluate his readiness. They tend to like that approach. Offensively at least, he looked pretty good with 3 goals 5 points in 7 regular season games, then 5 assists/points in 7 playoff games.

I think leaving open a spot for him to earn out of camp might be why they decided early on to part with EJ too. That and perhaps he wanted to play for more than $1M or so.

I wonder about Kane a lot because to me he's still a top notch playmaker that would make our PP exponentially better. I've mentioned before how weird it is that our best playmaker (Rantanen) seems to be the guy we look for to score when if you just changed the dynamic a little bit, it would probably be Mack scoring 60 with Mikko feeding him. But whatevs, you can tell that Mack really loves setting up Rantanen.

Anyways back to the PP, I can tell you one thing - I know Patrick Kane isn't perfect and can be known to dog it defensively but there ain't no-way, no-how our Power Play goes a lousy 1 for 16 in a playoff series or whatever it was like we did against the kraken if we had that guy.

I'm not so sure he'd want to come to Denver though, I think that guy wants to play the game his way and I'm not sure that would mesh with Bednar or a guy who is demanding of his teammates like MacKinnon. For some reason, I think he signs with Dallas...

Got a feeling the Avs will kick the tires on Tarasenko.

IMO the most likely reason they acquired Perry is the same reason they acquired Hall.

Give the fans some shiny new toys with names after losing Kane and possibly Toews so they don't lose interest, and then flip them at the deadline for assets.

They're a long ways away from competing. Perry wants to win, that's why he signed with Tampa. I bet Hall knows the plan too, like he probably did when he signed with Buffalo so they could trade him later.

Give up a 7th for Perry in the off season. Outbid other teams with a one year overpayment. Hope to trade him for a 2nd or 3rd at the deadline with retention. Smart move.

Oh at this point, with how aggressive they've been identifying the issues with last year's team (correctly so), I'll be surprised if it doesn't happen.

They are going to get certainty with DT7 (extension) and then move Girard OR RFA Byram because they just are not going to have a guy making that much $$$ on the bottom pair.

f***, Duchene tho. He ain't comin' back

Interesting they would specifically ask about ROR, and Joe would sound a little coy with the standard UFA answer.

I do feel like they may bring in another C/W option. Would be smart to have some insurance with three center options to take the 2C and 3C roles.

Would allow them to play ROR on the wing if need be, or move Colton into the top six if he blossoms here. Then they could re-unite ROR with Landy in the playoffs, so Landy can fulfill his destiny as a 3rd line grinder.

As much as I have loved O'Reilly the player over his career, he usually chases the money and I think his days as an effective top six player are over.

I also highly question if he could mesh well in Bednar's "skate, skate, skate" system. Then again they did just trade for Johansen.
