If they do bring in ROR I'm pretty sure it would be to play wing to start. Then re-evaluate as the season goes.

After the Colton trade CMac specifically called him a center saying, "Ross is a hard-working, two-way center with a championship pedigree" and also said he was 100% confident he can slot in at center.

They'll probably want to give RyJo a look at center first too. He has the highest upside of all of them.

As much as I have loved O'Reilly the player over his career, he usually chases the money and I think his days as an effective top six player are over.

I also highly question if he could mesh well in Bednar's "skate, skate, skate" system. Then again they did just trade for Johansen.

The Colton/Newhook swap is a clear indicator of that but I wonder what free agents they would have in mind to fit that billing?


Some of the big hit leaders at least in free agency would include Hathaway, Acciari, Zucker, and Bjugstad for the forwards, Gudas(Obviously lol), Schenn, Clifton...


Could definitely see the Avs eyeing Acciari for the 4C spot, Zucker for a Top 9 wing, and one of Clifton or Gudas for the 3rd pairing RD slot.

I like Frederic but I think he's a 4th liner through and through. I think this past season will be seen as the outlier in his career.

I've seen people upset they didn't draft an RD instead of an LD, and others throwing out names for 3rd pair RD next year. I feel like everyone has forgotten about Sam Malinski.

He's no spring chicken like other prospects. He turned 24 the other day. He's two years older than Bo and the same age as Cale. Not sure if he'll need more seasoning.

I think they gave him that AHL stint to evaluate his readiness. They tend to like that approach. Offensively at least, he looked pretty good with 3 goals 5 points in 7 regular season games, then 5 assists/points in 7 playoff games.

I think leaving open a spot for him to earn out of camp might be why they decided early on to part with EJ too. That and perhaps he wanted to play for more than $1M or so.

He had 5 points in 6 playoff games this season and a 40 point regular season the year before.

Somebody will trade for his experience at the deadline. At 50% and prorated it'll be like a $500k cap hit.

Long term I tend to agree, but I think this top 6 could work too. Combos based on chemistry, and style, not ranked by ability.

Then they can evaluate how Malinski is doing as the season goes on. The Avs sometimes like to take this approach, and then make a trade a month or two into the season if it's not working.

I think Toews could help bring Malinski into the league, the same way he did for Cale. They originally planned on G and Manson playing together, and it's only a matter of time until Bo plays with Cale full time.

Also I just realized everyone's name on the right side starts with an M.
