Probably leverage play for both sides. Pittsburgh has to act now or never on Granlund. Backs against the wall for Pittsburgh today to trade him or buy him out. If they go past today, trade is only option and that becomes more expensive. Once this got beyond the first week post UFA, this was always the most likely outcome (waiting until the second window opened and closed).

Any of you catch The World Junior Summer Showcase that came to a close on Friday 8/4/23 at USA Hockey Arena with a pair of scrimmages. USA Blue defeated Sweden, 5-4, thanks to a Quentin Musty goal in the final seconds. Filip Bystedt had a hat trick for Sweden.

AKA Sharks World Summer Showcase! So wild to see our guys basically dominating the tournament from all angles. That is a new feeling, that's for sure.

I’m hoping they clear enough room to allow for Gawanke to get that shot but I doubt it with all they got. Maybe they find a taker for Rutta now rather than having to wait out his contract a bit.

This never made any sense from Vancouver's perspective though. Why are they paying $11 million to have Labanc for a year?

We have SO many extraneous players, though. I think they’re gonna see how camp goes and a couple of them are gonna get sent off. Seems like a logjam and I really don’t see Eklund starting in the AHL after everything he’s done so far… he’s also still one of the top 6 most skilled guys.

I think Muk stays up with the Sharks for all of next season. He was borderline dominant in the games he played on the Cuda at the end of last year.

I wonder if GMMG is trying to fill the tank with vets to give time for the kids to play together in the AHL? Keep the kids from getting the tank-stank taint on them.

Alex Young? or he's going back to graduate? (so he can be a free agent?)


Thrun - Mukh (Burroughs or MacDonald coming down if someone earns a game or two up)
Pulli - Gawanke
Simek? Pohlkamp?

I feel like GMMG pushing to shelter them for one more year. I like the idea of having Simek to protect the youth. Although not sure how protect-y Simek can be. Might be LTIR. Could be a decent core for a run in the AHL while the Sharks stink it up.

That leaves the Sharks with:

Labanc - Cooter - Barbar
