At this stage, I'm more than happy to keep EK until next summer with an increasing cap and (hopefully) another solid season.

We still tanked last year with him. He's not the albatross people make out.

3 years left on his deal, a season to prove it wasn't a fluke and more suitors.

That has to be a better option than jettisoning him for pennies on the pound.
Let's say we keep Karlsson and he scores 60 points, which is actually 10 points higher than his average pace over the previous three seasons. Then what?

Seeing what several Pens fans and you seem to think we'll get in return
If we wait and he scores back to his regular HOF bound rate, then we might see more and better offers. Because there's no rush to give him away. I mean WOOF!

I'm sure GMs will be tripping over each other to try and acquire a 34 year old 60 point defenseman who doesn't play defense and has a cap hit of 9-11.5 million until he's 37.

Not even 10 months ago, we would have needed to attach multiple 1st round picks to Karlsson just to give him away with 50% retention. Then an act of God caused him to score 101 points and win the Norris. You have to trade him this offseason or risk never being able to again.

That's the point I've been making. Also Peng created a article out of your contract termination idea lol

He doesn't have to hit 100 + points again. We're a worse team than last year so it's even more difficult. No. He only needs to show he can play 80+ games a season. The scoring will come

No idea how accurate this calculator is but if Karlsson were to sign with a team with no state tax like Dallas or Tampa, he would only need a $25 million contract to make the same net income as he will if he stays on the Sharks.

Scary to think that making 11.5 per means he is barely bringing home 4 million of it, and that does not even account for all the other fees nhl players pay for agents and other people to help them with financial stuff.

And i wonder if that calculator even accounts for the taxes that is needed to pay for all of the other NHL cities he will face during a season.

Read that the Sharks have an interest in signing Dumba to replace Karlsson. Unless that's a move to make the team worse secretly, I don't see it; apparently, Dumba has regressed a lot.

Clowe was way better offensively. Wilson has broken 50 points exactly once in his 11 year NHL career. Clowe broke it 3 times in his 9 year NHL career. Clowe was also a huge asshole but smart about being an asshole. Wilson is dumb about being an asshole.

Also going to be honest I thought Clowe was traded closer to 2015 not in 2013.

I’m sure that’s not the case. Rich people are really good at hiring great accountants to minimize taxes paid.

For instance, the majority of Karlsson’s contract was/will be paid in signing bonuses. A lot easier to hide that from California taxes as it probably happens when he’s not in the state.

If not getting Petry in an EK deal signing Dumba to a 1 year deal would be beneficial. It would be low risk and could lead to a puck at the deadline. He would be the #1 D and get all the PP time he wants. The alternative is top pairing Matt Benning, which would not be good for Eklund’s development.

If sharks can't get at least a couple 2nds out of pit we should probably keep karlsson ya it's risky but even if it goes bad, it's not like we will need that cap space before the last year where offloading it is more manageable, and we can potentially increase the value

Any of you catch The World Junior Summer Showcase that came to a close on Friday 8/4/23 at USA Hockey Arena with a pair of scrimmages. USA Blue defeated Sweden, 5-4, thanks to a Quentin Musty goal in the final seconds. Filip Bystedt had a hat trick for Sweden.

It seems that this recent bit of "news" from Friedman isn't actually an update from his sources, but pure speculation given what we already know.
