I don’t really care what we get for Karlsson as long as we’re not giving up picks just to move him. Getting the majority of his contract off the books is a good enough return for me.

Buyout window opens 8/7? Arb ends today then 3 days it opens for 48 hours? I'm having trouble finding it.

Just in case that's what the Pens are waiting for.

The window is this Saturday and Sunday. I have a hard time believing they will actually buy anyone out but it would seem to signal intent to close the deal if they do.

Window opens three days after settlement (so tomorrow) and remains open for 48 hours (so Monday).

To be perfectly honest, I find it hard to be excited about anyone from the Penguins.
I think Yager has the ability to be a Top 6 RW sniper the Sharks have longed lacked.
Where did the scuttlebutt originate thst Grier wanted O'Conner?

They have a couple decent prospects but I'm not sure anyone they have would crack our top 5 prospects. Their 1st round pick is much more interesting. Even assuming there are protections on it, top 10, etc.... the Penguins still have a decent shot to miss the playoffs but still not have their protections kick in. If they do make the playoffs I have a hard time seeing them make it past the 2nd round. A pick in the 11-16 range is extremely interesting to me and one in thr 17-24 range isn't a terrible thing. Best case scenario could even be us getting a top 5 pick a couple of years from now if they crash hard this year. In any trade we make, getting a guaranteed 1st should be the priority. Even if a cap dump or 2 has to come back along with retention. Any middling prospect we get would just be gravy.

Ryane Clowe was a better player than Wilson.
As a HUGE Clowe fan (probably my 2nd favorite Shark all-time behind Pavs), I don't think so. The major difference is that Wilson has changed organizations from his gooniness. Clowe was never a goon, just a forceful PWF. Torres is actually a better comparison to Wilson than Clowe. I'm not talking just skill here, I'm talking the ability to take over a game, which we saw the benefits of when Torres wasn't suspended on the team. Also keep in mind I said 12-13 years, keeping in mind Clowe and when his downfall to health began. They didn't have the supporting talent in his great 08-10 years. When he began to decline, thats when the Sharks started adding the supporting talent (Couture, an older Pavs, etc.)

Clowe was way better offensively. Wilson has broken 50 points exactly once in his 11 year NHL career. Clowe broke it 3 times in his 9 year NHL career. Clowe was also a huge asshole but smart about being an asshole. Wilson is dumb about being an asshole.

Also going to be honest I thought Clowe was traded closer to 2015 not in 2013.

LMAO. Again, the complete opposite of reality JFC. Sharks would have a cup right now if they had a player like Tom Wilson the last 12-13 years.
Wilson should have been banned from the league 10 times over, his one season in the NHL was worse then Torres entire career. But had only managed to walk away with a total of like 25 games over his career.

At this stage, I'm more than happy to keep EK until next summer with an increasing cap and (hopefully) another solid season.

We still tanked last year with him. He's not the albatross people make out.

3 years left on his deal, a season to prove it wasn't a fluke and more suitors.

That has to be a better option than jettisoning him for pennies on the pound.
