This is why I think Seattle had the best offseason. Pick up Wright, continue tanking for Bedard. They are going to be scary good in a few years.
Pick up there draisaitl in 2022 and then pick up there mcdavid in 2023.

we're still a one line team with a bad defense and unproven/inconsistent goalies. that's a description of a bottom 10 team at best.

Like seriously, look at the lineup if it was more talent graded. Just a terrible lineup

Hertl-Couture-Meier
Barabanov-Kunin-Labanc
Lindblom-Sturm-Gregor
Lorentz-Bonino-Nieto
Viel/Gadjovich/Reedy

Ferraro-Karlsson
Nutivaara-Benning
Megna-Merkley
Simek-Vlasic
Wtf is this crap roster lines ?

Barabanov - Hertl - Meier
Eklund- couture - bonino
Lindblom - kunin - labanc
Lorentz - Sturm - Nieto

Karlsson - ferraro
Vlasic - Benning
Merkley- megna
Nutivaara - simek

Wtv it's all crap salad anyways. Depends what Labanc does this year and who gets traded on D. I assume simek is gone and one of the forwards also. Bordeleau will probably start in the ahl and Eklund probably makes the team on the 2nd line with couture.

The goalie situation is shit. Someone needs to go and honestly it should of been reimer at the deadline or before season starts

Other than the first line which is the same, all of the other lines are improvements over last season. Man the Sharks forward were crappy last season.

It will still likely take 1-2 of Eklund, Labanc or Lindblom to hit for this to be a playoff team.

i made it top heavy on purpose to show how bad the team is. somehow some people are overestimating the team and think we'll be in mediocrity limbo when we're really a lot closer to a bottom 5 team talent wise. even with you optimizing the lineup, it's really not that different from what i had.

I called this yesterday. Hard to tell how his rangers work will turn out as he was only there for the past 2 years, but his work with Colombus seems just ok, with their drafting really perking up after he left.

GMMG is fishing is a small pool.

Coming around on Dairy Queen the more i've learned. And Wars is huge. Maybe there's more to the picture on this guy.

Fishing in a small pond isn't all that uncommon when you're not a long time exec
I also think it's partly due to the time he was hired. Very few people are going to want to leave their current jobs months before the season begins. The Sharks really tied Grier's hands by waiting this long to hire him as GM I feel.

I think it’s funny that people are weirded out about Grier hiring people he knows. Every industry works like that. And if you’re new at a top level position, you’re going to want to surround yourself with people you know and trust and can lean on when things get tough.

With us being really bad next season no matter what, I’d love to give the prospects a chance. At forward, obviously Eklund will be fun but past him I hope Bordeleau, Coe, Robins, Gushchin, Ozzy, Raska, Russell at least get a chance to play a few games. On defense, there’s a few less players but Hatakka, Kniazev, Cicek, Knyzhov would be good. Not saying these guys start the season but maybe as call ups.

Maybe, don't want Quinn destroying their confidence either

It's not like he's just hiring his bro Chad that lives down the street who has never watched hockey before either. Everyone is at least qualified for their position.

I don't want too many prospects on the big club at the same time. It's hard to evaluate anyone when three of your lines have two rookies each on them.

I’m all for a call up if someone truly deserves it and can’t do more at the AHL level. But, IDK it’d be nice for a change if the Sharks actually tried to make something of their AHL team. They’ve just turned over the coaching staff, their getting a shiny new AHL appropriate rink. I’m all for a focus on developing players at the AHL level, and I’d like to see that include and emphasize a winning culture (winning like on the scoreboard, not like the “building winning habits for the next level” bullshit we’ve been getting for the last decade plus).

We were always going to be stuck in limbo unless all of the vets asked out of their deals. The moment that Hertl re-signed, the path became clear that a full-blown Arizona rebuild was not happening. And even then, I think once we get to year 3 or year 4 under Grier that you might be able to get by with that assuming some of the guys from the past few drafts hit. Will be an abundance of cap space to fill out the roster with guys to insulate in the top 9 and top 4 on defense via UFA or trade. Just have to sort of survive until then and hope that maybe one of these bottom 6 guys that were signed take the steps to solidify a top 9 role for the future or play well enough to fetch a nice return in a TDL move in a year or two.
They should have traded hertl for a prospect and multiple picks. We might of had enough ammo to trade up to pick Wright

I’m okay not getting Wright. He’s a good to great prospect but not someone that is going to turn us around. Missing out on all the defensemen is what’s going to kill us. Jiricek, Nemec, or Korchinski would have been huge for us. Mintyukov or Mateychuk to a lesser extent.

My piping hot prediction is Fisher becomes a better overall player than Korchinksi….Just him.

Yeah I’m going to have to strongly disagree with you. I think Fisher’s max potential is like Tyson Barrie right now. Maybe slightly better defensively but also slightly worse offensively. Korchinski has top pair potential easily. Also Fisher’s floor is barely AHL caliber whereas I think Korchinski is at least a David Schlemko type.

Fisher has some nice tools but you have to remember he was playing against children last year. Not even good children. The quality of his league was trash.

Mateychuk is such a miss though. Sadness
How could Mike Grier pass up the chance to draft a 5’8” defenseman 11th overall? Especially since successful NHL bluelines these days are just overrun by smurfs.
