So this is a pretty heated debate and to be honest one of the stances is not one I've seen too often for a team in Montreal's position (have so many assets, not worth selling or discouraging players)

To avoid revisionist history/people flip flopping on their opinion down the stretch, what would you do if you were Hughes?

A) Trade only the ones with great value and stick to your guns and risk losing for nothing.
B) Trade all rentals at any price.
C) Sell AND buy like WSH or PHI did.
D) Buy.
E) Do nothing and shop no one.
Too tough to call from the outside.

On the one hand, I want to get a good 2c. Without one, do we really have a chance of doing anything this year? And to get that 2c, having a top 5 pick, a 1st for Evans and Armia, and a 2nd for Savard are quality assets to try to get a really good 2c.

On the other hand, it's hard to cut the legs out of a team that is doing well.

Nice that Beck and Struble are going good though. They help for the loss of Dach and Guhle. Maybe we could have traded Evans and Savard all along if those two hadn't gotten injured? Maybe we still can?

My point was that a meager pick doesn't really move the needle for a team with 21 picks in the next two drafts. Keeping Evans and pushing for the playoffs may be of more value to the core group. What do you consider a comparable return for Evans to the Rantanen deal?
an "A" prospect or a 1st rounder is worth more than what a "non-signed" Evans can provide for the team for the remainder of the year. But I do agree with you, that if the pick is 3rd+ then there really is no point.

It all depends on what teams are actually offering.

I think if we do get an overpayment that we can't refuse for Evans we should then turn around and use a late pick like a 4th to pick up a depth C to at least ride out the rest of the season.

If we are keeping Evans and have some confidence that we will re-sign him then I'd probably also want to keep Armia and re-sign him too. But if Evans is gone I'd also try to trade Armia as well as I think Evans is the linchpin to that duo's success.

Savard and Dvorak I'd probably keep assuming the only offers are late picks which seems likely.

If NJ is that interested in Evans, Armia and co, I'd inquire hard on Dawson Mercer. I like the player and just have a hunch he'd be a great add to this team.
Having said that, with Jack Hughes injured, I have no idea what NJ will do. I don't even know if Mercer is available
IMO that’s precisely the type of deadline deal HuGo are seeking even if it means adding to Evans + Armia with pick(s).

Mercer has played C for NJD, I’m very curious what Chris Boucher’s take is on Mercer as a full time C in the NHL…

Also wonder how secure Fitzgerald’s job is, all he committed to last summer has not been successful, he’s been GM now for 5-years (AGM prior under Shero’s rebuild) Devils have achieved nothing in the playoffs during his tenure.

You guys need to grow up , Evans and Armia NEED TO GO , like what are we even talking about , I'd flip Matheson too.

You guys are talking like you go to bed with Dvorak Armia and Evans jerseys on , give it a rest these guys are bottom 6ers and we are rebuilding , Armia has been here for like 5 years let's move on god please jesus christ.

Still need to acquire assets so we can fix our top 6 and top 4 before we spend single living second worrying about bottom 6ers right now

While half the league are looking at rentals, I'd hope the main focus would be getting ahead of the game looking at options to fill our #2 C.

theres only one trade Jersey can offer us that Hugo should make work: something along the likes of Evans/Armia/Mailloux for Nemec + (cap dump) this year only.

Do nothing if they win the next 2 :scool:

Trade the pending UFAs for picks if they don't. :slaugh:

Sell Evans and Armia combo for a 1st+, or keep.

Try to be creative and design a 3-teams trade :

Habs send draft picks and prospects
Team X send established player to Buffalo
Buffalo send Cozens to Montreal.

I'd also listen offers for Matheson and go for it if I can get a top prospect, or else I keep and trade him this summer.

I keep everyone else.
