Salary Cap: '24-'25 Salary Thread: Crosbicles Volume MMXXVI: Sid is Still Goat

I hope this is just Yohe being Yohe because if the front office cares so much about having a full complement of players for a meaningless game then they are not very bright.
There are real player safety concerns if you don't have a full lineup. Sometimes stuff happens - illnesses, a player gets hurt early in the first, etc. - but if you can avoid playing shorthanded, you do it.

It's not about winning/losing.

His 23 and 23 yo season Getzlaf was still a ppg player. Certainly no Sid but not too shabby.
Rakell can certainly defy father time. And have full seasons going forward. Sid can certainly continue to defy father time. And have full seasons going forward. None of which are anything close to a certainty.
But that just proves my point: in those two years, Rakell was a very productive player.

I still think the dream scenario with Rakell is Rakell plus the Rangers 1st for Clarke and Moore, with adjusting with lesser assets to make it an even swap. I really don’t understand what LA is doing with Clarke or if they’re just a lot more sour on him than LA fans are.

Clarke would immediately become their top young player and he and whoever the Penguins would draft with their 1st this year would start the new “core”, with McGroarty and Brunicke potentially joining that as well. Recover at least some of the picks you trade in that deal with moving Karlsson in the offseason.

But that just proves my point: in those two years, Rakell was a very productive player.
Also my point lol. He produces with good players. He's having his 2nd best goal scoring season ever.
He's getting close to the age where players start to drop off or don't have full health through a whole season.
Crosby has already passed that age.
There's a good chance Rakell never matches this production again due to various variables.

The Winnipeg article says; Perfetti untouchable, Salomonsson untouchable, Lambert essentially untouchable (would take "a great player on a great contract"), Yager essentially untouchable.

For those without access.

He's also 32. Remember how we gave up a great player in Kessel according to you and then he proceeded to be such complete dog shit he was out of the league at 35.

I get it when you're talking Sid, Malkin, or Letang.

But not trading Rakell is legitimate lunancy. He is never going to have this value again. We can easily replace his impact on the team with a UFA or trade. Maccelli in Utah is probably a player we can get for a 2nd. And then do the whole thing over again.

I don't have access. Think that's a freebie.

The main point of that article that makes me think that Lambert could be possible is that article describes him as "Ehler's heir-apparent", but they could just acquire Rakell to be that. If they're not going to extend Ehlers, acquiring someone with term at a pretty low AAV like Rakell is a really good replacement.

I know Winnipeg has to be very cautious with their young players because a lot of players don't want to sign with Winnipeg, but Lambert for Rakell seems like the kind of deal Winnipeg should be making if Rakell is willing to go to Winnipeg.

All of them suck!

I don't hear Penguins fans going around saying if the Penguins had Petry and Rutta they'd still be a good team every five days though.
I don't think you're in a position to be berating people on posting something "every five days". That is the ultimate "people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" example.

Though, as others have recently suggested, I'm not sure you're really capable of picking up on such social nuances and cues like that.

I rarely if ever bring up Ron Hextall.

Every week I see someone on Penguins twitter saying "if only we didn't trade Mike Matheson", because similar to HFPens, most Penguins fans have no idea what the hell is happening outside of Western PA.

But you can't jump on any old offer because you're convinced he's gonna regress either.
