Genuinely thought that was a fake tweet. Wtf. On the other hand, Panthers vs. Lightning games just got even spicier.

Let's not forget that Huberdeau had 115 points last season (to lead the Panthers). Of course, he disappeared in the playoffs...

Knowing the Flames's luck, they won't be able to extend Huberdeau and Weegar, but won't trade them at the deadline for assets.

Looks like the Flames are out of the Bedard race. Thought for sure they would be trading Tkachuk for futures.

Good, one fewer team to compete with. Ottawa, Columbus, New Jersey, and Detroit all got better. The real competition now is Anaheim, Chicago, Montreal, and Seattle.

I don't understand what Florida is doing. They traded for a guy by giving up a guy who is not terribly dissimilar to him in terms of offensive production and a whole bunch of additional assets on top of that.

I also don't get why more teams didn't jump all over the Jackets for Bjorkstrand. Surely we could've done better than Seattle's 2nd/3rd to get a guy who could've been that 2nd line winger we kinda need.

1) They knew Huberdeau didn't want to sign long-term
2) They were disappointed in Huberdeau's playoffs and think his playstyle won't be conducive to winning
3) Huberdeau isn't great for the locker room.

If the Sharks are actually rebuilding, then not getting that 2nd-line-winger makes sense.

this is about as bad and damaging to that franchise as the Luongo for Bertuzzi trade.

Matthew is 5 years younger.

I would have given up those kind of assets to trade for a 5 year younger version of our elite players before signing them to huge contracts. I actually like it for Florida, especially if their guys didn't want to sign reasonable deals

Timo should yield a nice return if things go that direction. Not saying I want that. I mean, we won’t be getting a Huberdeau, but multiple 1sts in this 2023 draft would be nice. Curious if MG has had a chance to check in with Meier and Hertl. If he still hasn’t, that would be very unusual and a bit concerning.
