Bichsel picks up the secondary assist on a late game tying goal by Switzerland. He also hit the crossbar earlier in the period

I cant believe Bichsel chased him down and made a great play without even taking a penalty. Beautiful stuff.
He stopped a very similar Kemell breakaway vs Finland already even though that one wasn't as clean as this one and different refs might have given him a penalty. Still, he's got underrated foot speed. His skating looks slow and heavy but it's actually surprisingly effective.

I was disappointed with the Johnston pick. I was wrong to be.

I was disappointed with the Bischel pick. Looking like I’ll be wrong about that one too.

Maybe, and very likely, my couple weeks of reading scouting reports before the draft isn’t enough to formulate a good opinion on draft picks.

Can’t wait to watch Bischel develop. Hope he can develop into a long term Miro partner.

I think Bichsel is more likely to anchor the second pair. Either with Lundkvist on his left, or Harley on the left and Bichsel on the right. Heiskanen's future partner is probably gonna be someone they bring in from the outside.

You don’t like Lundkvist on top pair? No doubt he’s undersized, but I think he has more offensive upside than Miro does, he just needs the reps. His speed is obvious but his IQ and stick-work defensively has been impressive as well.

You're probably right, but other than handedness, Bischel sounds like the prefect partner for Miro: big, mean, defense-first defenseman that can chip in on offense. Now he may not pan out offensively but it's hard not to fantasize about him becoming that perfect Miro partner (especially with the hype he has built over the 2 WJC games).

I don’t think you spend a 1st with a chance at more for Lundkvist if you don’t have him pencilled in to be a top pair guy. Seems like a safe bet to be this generation’s Sydor. Bichsel probably gets Kyrou or Harley long term, if not someone from FA.

I mean, a young cost controlled 2nd pairing defenseman is still far more valuable than a protected first round pick. I still think Dallas makes that trade even if they thought Nils was a likely 2nd pairing guy.

Lundkvist might get there. I like him, a lot. But he's still expectedly rough around the edges. He's definitely better than advertised defensively, but Dallas is probably more interested in a TJ Brodie-like partner for Miro than a Rasmus Sandin type. Plus their numbers together are surprisingly weak; on ice for 5 goals for, and 10 against (!). Small sample, sure, but there's room for improvement. Granted, the pairs would be a lot easier to Jenga if Suter were jettisoned the f' out.

IMO Nils isn’t the guy to put up there with Miro. It would just recreate the situation that was with Klingberg, where Miro is the safety net for an offensive dman and would be back at the 35p /season pace. Healthy Johns would have been the ideal partner but unfortunately that went sideways.

Nils should get a pair of his own to run. A sort of a 1B, if you will.

Tried watching Stankoven but had to turn the game off, Bedard is just too painful to watch. Massive puck hog, massive solo player, massive stick tapper, can't watch that shit.

Bedard is simply incredible. I’m sorry, but missing his performance was your loss.

Beating up Germany isn't anything special. I look forward to Bedard smashing his stick on the ice begging for the puck in the NHL then getting laid the f*** out or having one of the vets tell him to stop being a begging bitch.
