Sabres fan here -- What's the deal with Cecconi?

As far as Laaksonen goes -- all offense, no defense AHL-level defenseman. We had high hopes for him given how gifted he is/was offensively..........but his defense just never came around at all. Might be better off converting to wing, honestly.

Cecconi was not in the Dallas Stars' plan at all for the NHL level.

Career mid-tier AHL defender who will never sniff the NHL and seems to have a bit of an attitude.

Can't see either guy ever getting more than a game or two at the NHL level.

Are you desperate for RHD? Probably the only way he spends any time in the NHL.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go to Europe or something after this season.

Our 2 best RHD -- Jokiharju and Lyubushkin are injured. Boosh is at least skating. Our 3rd-best RHD is Casey Fitgerald and he's a tweener. (Note that Dahlin and Samuelsson are our top pair and both LHD, so we only regularly use 2 RHD anyways).

Cecconi is now tied with Chase Priskie on our organization depth chart.

My guess is that this is AHL-only move. Rochester is DESPERATE for defense-first guys.

Laaksonen at 165 is 20-ish pounds heavier than when he was drafted. He's an AHL PMD who struggles with reads and positioning in his own zone at the AHL level. This seems like a deal to shuffle the deck, not sure if Texas needs a PP2 point man, but Oskari can contribute there.

Not really the trade for a RHD that I was looking for. I guess good start Nill. Maybe next time try for a guy who will play in the NHL.

Cecconi has been scratched alot this year too. Nice trade to his hometown team . Just no longer in the Stars plan. After threatening to not sign his ELC with the Stars and he's really not done a whole lot at the AHL level.

25 now and turns 26 in May . I doubt the Sabres can make him become an NHL player either.
