I think stank was just as ready , if not more than johnston .

I disagree. In the limited action I was able to see of him in the preseason (since the Stars don't offer much coverage of it), I saw him outmatched physically because of his size too often to make him very effective. Not saying that's necessarily always going to be the case, but I'd have more confidence in him at this level, were he able to have played in the AHL and proven it there first.

Next year there's really no risk in giving him a chance to play in the NHL because if he doesn't fit well enough, he CAN play in the AHL and refine his game like Dellandrea had to do.

Not really ever keeping up with prospects or the process- this has been in the back of my mind reading this thread off and on. At what point is it time for him to take the next step? Kinda feels like a waste of time to keep him there if he isn’t being challenged.
He is being challenged. IMO, what kept him out of the NHL this year is he was beat by Johnston when it comes to his details off the puck, and beat by Dellandrea's ability to play offense/defense from every forward position. Stankoven has that skillset too but it's not developed to Dellandrea's degree.

This year, I've watched more of him than normal -- some games he is barely noticeable because he's deferring puck carrying responsibilities to Bankier or Minten while focusing on his game away from the puck as their RW. Normally, you have no control over CHL prospects, but because of Gagliardi's ownership, they can influence Stankoven's usage to better his development. When the big dogs come to town, like against Regina and Bedard, Stankoven reverts to his normal self and it becomes obvious again who that team's daddy is. He'll play that way for team Canada too, I'm sure.

I doubt he needs any time in the AHL. This sort of is his AHL year where he's focusing on specific skills.

Why are they just now sending him down?
I imagine they've spent a ton of time in practice working on his defensive positioning and off the puck movement. His offensive side is lights out but they'll want him to not be a liability away from the puck. So spend time teaching and now they're sending him off to put all that work into practice. See how he does. It's not ideal but many offense only players don't play a lot of AHL games their rookie season.

It also doesn't help that Texas is stacked with vets and a handful of NHL prospects who need game time too.

Sarnia and Erie actually play each other tonight so I imagine Kyrou is already in Sarnia and should play against his former team tonight.

It'll be interesting to see if Kingston moves Arcuri. They're trying to get the Memorial Cup next year, and there was already a rumor that they hope to use Shane Wright as a trade asset to load up for next season.

Is Cam Atkinson a fair and attainable goal/player comp for Stankoven at this point?

I think this is a reasonable bar. I have a feeling some would be disappointed with this, though.

Took a bit to find a groove but Texas is playing really well now in the AHL.

I’m still pretty shocked Logan Morrison hasn’t signed anywhere. 3rd in points in the O right now.

Understandable. I’ve seen Marchand thrown around too, but I wanna manage expectations. He definitely has a ton of Atkinson in his game with a bit more jam. If he turns into 55-60 point top sixer with aggressiveness I’m pretty happy.
