Didn’t notice this but something amazing happened on the 3rd!

That’s right, Pytlik scored a goal! Not much, really a goalie miscue, highlight available at Flashscore.

His first point in 14 games. He started the season injured and also is not very good. But congrats on the goal!

Pytlik disappeared so hard I though he went back in time and pushed his father out of the path of his grandfather’s car.

More disconcerting with U of M, with three Devils draft picks on defense, did they really give up 52 shots on goal Friday night?

I didn't watch the Friday night game, but after seeing the box score I was picturing that scene from Varsity Blues when the players stayed up all night partying the night before. Although Ohio State did outshoot them 39-27 on Saturday as well.

What the hell did Ethan do:

The contact wasn't too bad, just one of those calls that gets you ejected in college/international.

Two things:

First, you clearly linked that article because it contains the following sentence:

"Had Filmon not been stoned on a late third period breakway, the young winger would have tied the league record of seven shared with five other players."

So somewhere between the second and third period Filmon did a few bong hits? Or was it actually on the bench during the third period before the breakaway? Or was it edibles? How could the team not take disciplinary action with someone getting stoned during a game, and badly enough it impacted his on ice performance? Just shameful.

Second, that article lifted the videos prepared by our own @Guadana for highlights on Gritsyuk and Bardhakhov.

I don't know who James Tracy is but he may be one of us here? It isn't me if that helps narrow it down. I would have thanked Guadana for the work he put into the videos if was to link them in a prospects article, but that's just me.

Well Elite Prospects’ Rinkside had a new set of “Prospect Watch” articles.

After being all over the December editions (Stock Rising: Hauser, Vilén, Casey & Stock Steady: Hughes) I thought they might run out of guys to discuss but nope…

Not when they got our hot as a pistol WHL prospect to admire.

The bad news is we got our first Stock Dropper but it’s not exactly a controversial choice. Poor one out for Pytlik.

Didn't Pytlik suffer a significant knee injury that kept him out for a fairly long while? If so, he might have never fully recovered from that?

Got a chance to see Patrick Moynihan live last night in Providence's 3-2 OT loss at Princeton.

Couple of scoring chances and played point for a time on the pp.

Overall, a fairly quiet game for a senior.

Hard to see him receiving an ELC at this point. Maybe gets an AHL deal.

On the plus side for the Friars, forward Parker Ford and defenseman Cam McDonald are intriguing as potential UFAs.

Yeah, Moynihan's stats have really plummeted this season - just 9 points in 24 games as a senior.

Was he the one from that draft that was also good friends with Jack Hughes or was that McCarthy?

It was him. I would consider signing Moynihan if he brought Parker Ford with him.

Moynihan will be signed. Players like that will be good enough to play bottom 6 in the AHL plus he is a friend of Jack.
Best stats came when he was playing with Tyce Thompson so there is that Devils' connection too.

But would hate to think Devils just sign guys because they're somebody's buddy.

An AHL deal is one thing but ELC's are a bit more valuable; particularly given the increased talent in the organization.

According to Capfriendly, NJ has 44/50 contract slots filled. Let's say Luke is 45/50. Presumably some of the expiring vets aren't brought back. Graves, Severson, Blackwood, Johnsson, Tatar, Bernier. Of those, say they replace Blackwood, Tatar, and Severson externally. That would leave three open slots so the team would have 42/50 slots filled. There are three guys who the right expire this offseason - Moynihan, Pasic, and McCarthy. I could see the team offering an ELC to McCarthy and Moynihan. Thompson has a one way deal next season and presumably you have to add some new blood to the AHL team and they didn't add much this season.

I don't think that's the only reason to sign him to an ELC. He had three other good seasons and college seasons are short, it's not hard for a few bounces to go the wrong way and for the numbers to look worse than they should be. Yeah, it's unlikely he makes it to the NHL, but the Devils don't have a ton of forward depth in Utica and almost none's arriving via their picks next year - Stillman's going to be a bottom-line guy down there too.

The Devils have plenty of room on their reserve list right now - they don't have anyone on perma-IR and a large portion of their prospect base is playing overseas or in college.

Remember: Gambardella, Pinho, and Geertsen are UFAs at Forward and Russo is one at defense.

Pinho and Russo are probably worth keeping and if they aren’t they’ll need tweener replacements. The two grit guys can be replaced. Talvitie, Dugan, Groleau and Walsh are all RFAs. There’s some flexibility there.

Thompson isn’t waiver exempt next season.

There’s definitely room for Moynihan in the minors, not sure what kind of deal he would get though. He isn’t generating many shots.

Seems like there would be better options for contracts via either the NCAA or European free agent pools - not to mention fringe AHL/NHL veterans that could play prominent roles for the Comets and fill in in a pinch in case of injury.
