He's been looking real good through 2 periods. It's still early in the season, but if he keeps improving like this, we have ourselves a player. Guys a beast along the boards, passes well, can both wrist and one time the puck. Not a lot of things he can't do. Just a matter of how he puts it all together long term.

If feel like Hughes/Gorton know that the AHL would typically be better for his development but they much rather have him coached by/develop under MSL than JF Houle; so he is stuck playing 4th line minutes with the big club.
He is still getting NHL reps which is important.

... and KK has 1g 2a in 19 games.
:D
I just found out McCarron has a better PPG than him.

The flaming I got when I compared KK to McCarron like 3 years ago.

He needs to play with better players soon.

Gotta defend the terrible position from 6+ months ago even though the guy you wanted can't even get 6 minutes TOI in the NHL.

Slaf has the higher floor and higher ceiling right now.

Wright enthusiasts in complete and utter shambles.
I think you’re fried if you think I’m critical of Slaf’s development because of some preference for Shane Wright.

I understand many hockey fanatics care about prospects but many others don’t care unless they are relevant toward the needs of the Habs. I’ve forgotten about Wright and will only revisit him and others down the line.

The topic is Slafkovsky. I am interested in him and his development in as much he contributes to the Habs and our shared pursuit of success.

He has 4 pts in 14 games with truly dire linemates. Soon there will be an inflection point where his biggest weakness (vision, playmaking at the NHL level) will need to be improve. Once he’s caught up to the NHL-level game’s speed, he’ll need to produce and perform.

He’s a 1OA for heaven’s sake. He doesn’t need the emperor’s new clothes treatment — he’s supposed to have all these fancy skills and abilities! That’s the whole dang point of tanking for him ffs.

At some point he will need to be put in a position to flex his many gifts and build himself up as a big, relevant player. He needs better linemates and more ice time.

I think I would prefer Slaf with Monahan and Anderson. In fact I would be really excited about a line of Slaf-Monahan-Dach, if the coming draft can get us a first line player who will click with Suzuki and Caufield. That would be two amazing young top lines.

But for now, being on an essentially third line with Dvorak and Gallagher is still better than where he was before, alongside offensive black holes.

If some of the Vets played with as much enthusiasm and effort as Slaf, we’d be in real good shape! Not to be a Negative Nellie in sector 7, but it looks like the wall may be on it’s way. I however will hope for the best, will be satisfied with being entertained!

Playing on the fourth line is not the disaster that some people think. He can pick up on his defensive game and he's not going to face the best from the other teams.
You're right. But it's just disappointing to see him make nice plays that his linemates can't handle due to lack of skill. Obviously he will be moved up the lineup eventually, we just need to be patient and trust the plan they have for him.

I don’t know if it’s the special teams being on the ice so much but it seems by the time 5v5 play gets around to Evan’s line something always goes down and Slaf skips his turn for some reason... I’m a bit Slaf-thirsty.

Slaf is on a lower PPG than even Jack Hughes.
Here are the points per 60 minutes played for the Habs forwards this year.

Slafkovsky is 6th on the team. And all five guys ahead of him have more PP time per game. Here are the 15 forwards in order:

1. Caufield 3.50
2. Suzuki 3.35
3. Dach 3.06
4. Hoffman 2.13
5. Monahan 2.09
6. Slafkovsky 1.80
7. Dvorak 1.69
8. Gallagher 1.66
9. Anderson 1.60
10. Drouin 1.49
11. Dadonov 0.54
12. Evans 0.43
13. Pezzetta 0.00
14. Pitlick 0.00
15. Armia 0.00

By the way, since Slaf is a winger, I would compare him to other wingers, not centremen who usually get more points.

Pacioretty
age 20 = 1.54
age 21 = 1.43
age 22 = 2.18

Andrei Svechnikov at age 18 got 1.85 points per 60 minutes.

Anyone who thinks Slafkovsky does not merit his place in the NHL seems off-base.
