Theres always a GM who's desperate and/or willing to throw money at free agents. I'd never rule out teams like NYY, Boston and the Dodgers.Totally agree BUT some GM will pay. They can’t help themselves.
5 years $100 million is where I'd have him right now. If theres a bidding war, I could see 5 years $120ish million. His 2017 season was pretty comparable and he was essentially a Gray/Stroman level pitcher from 2015-2019. I think his contract's AAV will settle in between McCullers and Wheeler. I'm not sure if he'll get that 5th year though.
If you could front load the crap out of it I would be okay with 5x 100.5 years $100 million is where I'd have him right now. If theres a bidding war, I could see 5 years $120ish million.
That would make a lot of sense if you back loaded deals on the younger position players who'll need contracts in a few years. It sounds like Shatkins have the go-ahead to spend, but its Rogers, so I won't hold my breath. If you could front load the crap out of it I would be okay with 5x 100.
Something like 35/35/14/8/8. Leaves you a tonne of flexibility at the end of he deal with Ryu off the books by then too.
That's right, it's been a few years, but I remember that through most of the 80s Toronto and Detroit were rivalries both the Tigers and the Red wings. That was the 84 Tigers that went 35-5. 87 was the year we had the division lead going into the last week of the season and lost it on the last day to Detroit. That STILL hurts!
Huh. I kind of wondered if the Jays might go after Polanco. Then I looked at his stats and realized he's been turrrible for most of the last 3 years. By the stat line he was an absolute train wreck defensively this year.
