I like Frankie and would love to keep him, but right now no idea how this might play out. Say he's the #1 in the playoffs and plays well, can we keep him?

It's not a good year for free agent goalies, and Colorado has stuck with him so far, so... :dunno:

Personally I'd rather they find someone with fewer health question marks to be the back-up. Francouz missed the first 26 games this year with a different LBI than the one that caused him to miss all of last season. Hopefully he can put his health issues behind him.

The trade deadline really hinges on Byram's availability. If he's able to play, I think the Avs are active in the forward market, and add a depth D. If he's not, the need for another top-4 D goes way up. Tough position to be in right now, hopefully Byram feels better before the TDL.
I'd rather not rely on Bo Byram shoring up our defense. This is clearly going to be a season where he's not 100% right. The Avs need to find someone to play with Girard so that the Johnsons can be relegated to 3rd pairing minutes.

Even if Byram is able to play I don't think you can really bank on him being healthy the entire playoffs given his history.... I think filling that spot needs to be a priority either way.

One of Sakic's downfalls has been his continued expectation that the holes in the lineup will be filled by current roster players suddenly getting it together. I mean, they've been waiting on JTC and Jost to suddenly become the depth centers the team needs and they are both shit at it. I definitely think adding a solid, low event, minute eating, PKing defensemen would be a boon for this team...or you can go with my other idea of just getting all the puckmoving defensemen and just hoping you can get it out of the zone before anything bad happens.

If he stays healthy the rest or the year, I'd absolutely take him back here.

He's continuing to show that he's a real solid goalie this year despite missing a full year of action.

If he can just stay healthy I'd have a hard time finding a backup goalie around the league that's better than him.

I doubt he takes the #1 spot unless Darcy gets hurt or completely shits the bed. If they can convince him to take another 1-2 year deal at a similar cap hit, I don't see why they wouldn't keep him

I guess I don't understand the "wait on Giroux till closer to the deadline" thing for the Avs. Yes, his cap hit is high, but his real $ isn't. Thus, I think getting Philly to retain 50%, and then get someone like Ottawa or Detroit to retain another 50%, wouldn't be too difficult, or cost near as much as normal. Then his cap hit goes down to $2.07M. If Joe includes JTC or Jost in the deal, he'd actually gain cap space to potentially add another piece. IMO, I'd do it as soon as possible.

From our perspective yes, but maybe Philly is waiting. Or maybe Giroux's camp is waiting to see what else is out there or to decide exactly what he wants to do.

I tend to agree it's in the Avs best interest to get a deal done right away but maybe it isn't for other parties.

To no one's surprise, he spent half the article talking about Claude Giroux...

Have the Avs ever recently had a big name UFA so strongly linked to them at the deadline? Seems like every insider unanimously thinks Colorado when talking about Giroux.

Hall. Remember when he got healthy scratched right before the Avs game?

I think it's ridiculous how late into the season the NHL trade deadline is, some of these guys aren't even going to have a chance to really adjust to their new teams.

Summary for those without Athletic??

Essentially, they'll look at adding to help for a Cup run. Any deals will be weighed for team chemistry, and they'll need to be money in for money out due to the cap.

LeBrun brings up Giroux, and mentions getting a third team for helping eat some of his cap.

Mentions the rumors of Joe wanting to add a goalie, but then Joe just talks about how well Darcy and Frankie have been playing lately. LeBrun didn't seem to think they would be doing that.

Pretty much the gist of it

That puts one final nail in the coffin to MAF rumors. Or better yet, a dagger.
