Yea, in general. Like the NBA deadline is today, feel like it should happen earlier in the season.

Not sure I agree. You need to give time for some of these teams to realize they're out of it to create more sellers.

Ya I think I'm fine with it as is tbh. Maybe you bump it back a tiny bit but I think the NBA is a very different league to the NHL. Way less parity and usually within like 25 games you have a good idea who the contenders are and who the tankers are in a given season.

Punt Compher and Jost, add a middle 6 (at least) and top 4 defenseman, keep the goalies as is. Simple.
I don't think you can add those 2 players on 5.5 million alone. But if we unload Bura's 4.9 with it, then we're talking. He's coasted most of this season anyway. If we move Bura as part of the Giroux then we wouldn't need a 3rd team for double retention.

Bura+ first or second round pick (depending on the prospect they want) + Barron/Helleson/Kaut (depending on the pick they want)

Then move Jost for a pick.

Then move JTC+Picks and/or prospects for the Dman we need.

Everyone is is then happy.

If the deadline is too soon many teams will still be in the wildcard race, think they have a chance and won't sell. Also good teams with a rough start might be more hesitant to buy. It's lose-lose for the fans.

Cap space is an issue as well.

What is happening in the East this year is the exception, not the rule. Usually it's not clear cut who's going to be in at this time of the year.

By all fan accounts Eakin has been garbage in Buffalo, but I wonder if Eakin at 50% for JTC would work?

At this point most Buffalo fans would trade him for nothing so I think it’s a win to clear out the cap for someone who can win faceoffs.

Then figure out a way to do Jost for Hakanpaa

I don’t think Sakic has any intention on moving Compher. But for argument sake let’s say he does, a Giroux trade earlier rather than later would actually give the Avs more cap space at the deadline to do more lol.

Giroux retained 50% by Philly and another 50% by AZ as Lebrun speculates with Compher going out will actually give the Avs more cap space which they can accrue as we approach the deadline.

He doesnt have a choice to move JTC if he trades for someone even at 50% retained. We have like 150k in deadline cap space.

So sad but true. JTC will be at some point our #3 C during the PO’s again.

Sakic has to move Compher. That's simply way too much money to pay a perennial 4th liner who's had a couple really bad years.

He's not even having a bad year this year.

I agree he has to go if we're bringing someone like Giroux in and in general we could spend his $3.5M in better ways, but he's been fine this year. This board just has a hard on when it comes to hating every single thing he does, Tyson Jost as well is in that same boat.

Vegas' get out of jail free card. If they dont have to lose any depth to add Eichel in, they're winning the cup this year. No point to even buy.

I dunno, man. Lehner has been pretty shit this season and they don't look like the same team they did last year. Maybe Eichel will be their messiah, who knows

Goaltending is the only question mark on that team.

They're going to add a 1C basically on the same level as Mackinnon. That's going to bump everyone else down into spots they're better suited for and if they can get away with not losing quality depth because of the fake Stone injury.... They're going to be pretty much impossible to beat in the playoffs.

We couldn't beat them last year and now they're going to be even better this year.

He started out well but has been a complete non-factor since coming back from injury. The scrappiness he displays to win puck battles and drive to the net just isn't there right now, and when he isn't productive, he's not good enough in any other area to make up for that. He's a bad defensive player who really should not be anywhere near the penalty kill.

And I don't think it's nitpicking to get on him or Jost--both of them simply haven't been good enough.

Guys like dadonov haven’t been much either.

On the contrary, Dadonov is a really good two-way player who's been a bit snakebitten with bad shooting luck. Despite that he's been a good defensive player on a Vegas team that desperately needs good defensive players.

I'd love for the Avs to pick him up, but admittedly that contract is not ideal.

It's a moot point anyway, Vegas found their out. :shakehead
