I don't have a problem with an executive who has weaknesses.

I do have a problem with executives who are okay with being scummy human beings from time to time and being brought in because he's buddies with another executive.
Scummy human being ? If there something we can say about Bergevin, is that he’s a great guy

Habs fan here: I didn't dislike him as much as other Habs fans did and I'd still say he's mediocre at best. He does some good things and is probably good for a culture but he has no vision and is reactive instead of proactive.
Exactly, he was too impulsive and short-sighted in Montreal, and that is the exact opposite of what you want to have a say on a team that already isn't thinking enough about the future.

Gut says that we are going to see a whole lot of tinkering trades here that move the team sideways instead of forward.

Luc with his french connections. Bring in Darche at least. Why not Gorton when he was free?!? He built the Bruins and Rangers.

That's not my read on him, either from others or my own observations from afar, but we'll probably argue incessantly.
I don’t think how you can say this guys wasn’t a good guy honestly. You can’t say everything about his management skills but saying he’s a bad humain is just completely false

I don’t like it. Hope it’s just a temp favor thing and to give some additional ideas/input. But that at most.

the fact that they specifically labelled it as "in consulting capacity" makes me less wary

i don't have anything in particular against bergevin, but i don't like retreads

hopefully he's just here to give opinions and nothing else

even then, why? whats the point of this? all the blake lovers, and john hoven defenders, please explain this.

It just shows yet again this organization is just a big country club of recycled bullshit.

I hate this organization from a managerial and executive standpoint. Absolutely pathetic.

LOL. I pity you guys. Seriously, he has no vision. Is VERY reactive. And emotional. I now expect you guys make a pitch for his favorite player, Gallagher.
And he’s allllllll about his buddies.

So it looks like Blake will get extended then. Bergy as the ass. GM...lol

Typical over-reaction.

I don't think it is a bad move since he has connections to the east coast teams for an incite on players there for trades, signings etc... The final word will still come from Blake. I never saw Blake as a connected GM. Seems he is to conservative and needs to be more active at times. I think we should see how this pair works together before panicking.

It might sound crazy but I think Claude Julien or Kirk Muller might be hired to work on our special teams. We poached ex Habs in the pass i.e Larry Robinson so why not.

Robitaille, Blake, Bergevin are all very close (along with) Brisson. Check the Montreal board and the thread discussing it.

While he's an outside hire, it reeks of cronyism.

Though again you do a great job aggressively missing the point and looking foolish as you try to take pot shots at others.

All the upper echeleon of NHL management, are close with each other, some more than others obviously,

Just cherry pick, any team,

Detroit - Devellano, drafted Yzerman, who played with Verbreek, Lidstrom, Campbell, Fischer, Cleary, Horcoff, Maltby, one scout is Yzerman's brother/son/nephew, Draper is head of scouting etc,

Pittsburgh - Lemieux, Hextall, Young, Kostopolous, Daley, Cullen etc....

So yea, I'm laughing at you guys who cry about all the "cronyism" and then cry that they hired an outsider....tell me, what connection does Bergervin have with LA, or Robitaille? Never played together, etc,

I mean if your evidence is....well people on HF boards say so....just come out and say it.

Old boys club or not, Bergevin is a bad GM with a bad reputation and got fired after making a series of questionable moves, not the least of which being drafting Mailloux.

He got fired because Montreal went from hero to zero faster than most anyone......

Again on Mailloux, I don't think it was questionable, I think he saw that the kid owned it, apologized, did what he needed to do to get past it, and he now has a top end prospect at a bottom end price. OHL reinstated him.....unless you are in the club of no one ever gets a second chance no matter what, and I'm the first to say there is 100% a class of people that are in that category, I'm not sure any 16-17-18-19 old should be in that category unless it's extremely vile.
