All the upper echeleon of NHL management, are close with each other, some more than others obviously,
Just cherry pick, any team,
Detroit - Devellano, drafted Yzerman, who played with Verbreek, Lidstrom, Campbell, Fischer, Cleary, Horcoff, Maltby, one scout is Yzerman's brother/son/nephew, Draper is head of scouting etc,
Pittsburgh - Lemieux, Hextall, Young, Kostopolous, Daley, Cullen etc....
So yea, I'm laughing at you guys who cry about all the "cronyism" and then cry that they hired an outsider....tell me, what connection does Bergervin have with LA, or Robitaille? Never played together, etc,
I mean if your evidence is....well people on HF boards say so....just come out and say it.
You probably are surprised to hear that you don't have to play together to be friends. Here are articles tying Bergevin to LA while he was still an executive with Montreal, including one article citing their friendship.
Luc Robitaille denies rumors about Marc Bergevin - Newsy Today
Marc Bergevin is once again employed in the NHL | Markerzone.com
It has long been noted that Kings' President Luc Robitaille and Bergevin have been friends for a long time and there were even rumours of Bergevin joining LA before he was fired by Montreal as his contract was up at the end of this season.
But good job hedging your arguments of "even if it is cronyism, every team does it."
