All the upper echeleon of NHL management, are close with each other, some more than others obviously,

Just cherry pick, any team,

Detroit - Devellano, drafted Yzerman, who played with Verbreek, Lidstrom, Campbell, Fischer, Cleary, Horcoff, Maltby, one scout is Yzerman's brother/son/nephew, Draper is head of scouting etc,

Pittsburgh - Lemieux, Hextall, Young, Kostopolous, Daley, Cullen etc....

So yea, I'm laughing at you guys who cry about all the "cronyism" and then cry that they hired an outsider....tell me, what connection does Bergervin have with LA, or Robitaille? Never played together, etc,

I mean if your evidence is....well people on HF boards say so....just come out and say it.

You probably are surprised to hear that you don't have to play together to be friends. Here are articles tying Bergevin to LA while he was still an executive with Montreal, including one article citing their friendship.

It has long been noted that Kings' President Luc Robitaille and Bergevin have been friends for a long time and there were even rumours of Bergevin joining LA before he was fired by Montreal as his contract was up at the end of this season.

But good job hedging your arguments of "even if it is cronyism, every team does it."

I've said it every time that asinine argument comes up, OMG they only hired XXXXXX because they are friends/played together etc, it's an asinine argument at BEST, and shouldn't be surprised, it's the same asinine argument.

Kings could hire Scotty freaking Bowman, and I swear to god, half this board would be....omg, why, it's because they knew each other.....

“Marc brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our hockey operations staff and will be a valuable addition to our group,” said Vice President and General Manager Rob Blake. “We look forward to his contributions.”

Bergevin spent nearly 10 years as GM of the Canadiens before being relieved of his duties earlier in the 2021-22 season. Prior to that, he spent seven seasons in the Chicago Blackhawks organization, including one season as assistant general manager.

“I’ve enjoyed my time away, but I’m excited to join the LA Kings and become an active part of helping the team reach its objectives,” said Bergevin. “I have a great amount of respect for Luc (Robitaille), Rob, and the staff they have in place and it’s an honor to provide my input to this highly-regarded group.”

On the surface, this is not the French connection I would ever hope for.

Upon further pondering, I’m really hoping that he can be an outside source of input that is actually taken serious. Would be a breath of fresh air to have some high level of management see the vets on this team without homer glasses.

I am guessing we will see the Moore, JAD and Grundstrom types moved out for other players of similar ilk. Moves for the sake of moves, HOPING they work.

Bergevin is known specifically for not identifying and progressing a longterm structure, but prolifically tinkering to succeed now. Some moves work, most won't, but there will be more transactions than there would otherwise occur, and that always pleases a portion of a fanbase who mistake action for progress.

Way to kill my buzz after destroying the wings last night. Ugh.

Blegh, not exactly what I’d call a confidence builder, but I suppose it will at least be entertaining at times.

So I wonder if Bergevin will be spending a lot of time in Ontario, evaluating the players. Trade deadline late this year - March 21.
The Kings could be buyers or sellers, depending where they are in the standings. Sellers means vets going....buyers meaning youth
and / or picks going. Honestly hoping the Kings are in a playoff spot and buyers.

Will he lose the red jacket and get a purple or gold one? (can't see him getting a drab, gray one)
So, remember if he dons a purple or gold jacket, was first predicted here...the day he was announced.

The Kings are now effectively in a four way tie for the last playoff spot in the West with Dallas, Edmonton, and Winnipeg. Plus San Jose has the same number of points having played one more game than the Kings.
Compare this with the East, where it’s already pretty set which eight teams are going to the playoffs.
Should be a wild next three months in the Western Conference.

Evans vs Bergy, who ends up the better dresser?

At this point, we should bring up Byfield and Vilardi for the third line. They're playing great and have a ton of chemistry down in Ontario and Vilardi's been looking really good at wing.

Kempe - Kopitar - Arvidsson
Iafallo - Danault - Kaliyev
Moore - Byfield - Vilardi
Lemieux - Lizotte - Brown

They honestly need to trade away some of these guys. AA being one of them. Just no need for that guy. Re-signing him was a mistake. But I can see why Blake wouldn't because of COVID potentially knocking out so many players at a time. Come the deadline they need to at least attempt to get rid of the players that they know have no future with the squad next season.

Swap Arvidsson and Kaliyev, then make Kaliyev switch his number to 27. Magic happens.

Remember when Blake was “just an assistant?”

So Luc is going to stab DL in the back for a friend, and then stab the friend in the back for a friendier friend?

Are they not allowed to hire anyone for any positions? If Bergevin is now the GM, I imagine Blake has some pride, and he would just quit today. Has Blake done anything to upset Luc? Are they too competitive for a moron like Luc? Does he want Blake to trade all the young guys, and he's saying no?

How long have you been gone? Alex got the Vid shortly after debut. Should be back soon.

Bergevin is the assistant gm starting after season & Blake is rumored to be extended. We're entering full meltdown.

Edit: & Byfield is heating up in Ont

The implication is that Bergevin fits into a long-term executive role, not that the immediate plan is to form a coup.

Of course, Luc and Blake can hire whomever they want. But who they hire and for what role suggests a particular vision or plan.

And I/we don't like Bergevin's body of work to like the direction.
