In all seriousness we have no idea what the remit is and it may be an area(s) that he is very proficient in. He held a GM/VP role in Montreal for a while so must have done something right and everyone here like to complain about ‘jobs for the boys’, so they go outside so I’m basically OK with it. He also played over 1000 NHL games and was a a successful AGM in Chicago so he has a solid resume.

I’m not saying I want him as the next GM.

Habs fan here: I didn't dislike him as much as other Habs fans did and I'd still say he's mediocre at best. He does some good things and is probably good for a culture but he has no vision and is reactive instead of proactive.

I wouldn’t read a ton into Bergevin taking a part time job. My guess is this is a favor from Luc and it keeps MB in the mix for a future GM job somewhere else. Who knows, maybe the Ducks. He could be a pro scout for the eastern conference and feed Blake some leads over the next couple of months.

Not too keen having him in the organization considering his role in Chicago with how Kyle Beach was treated and drafting Logan Mailloux last year.
Both good points. He hadn’t even made AGM at that point but he was certainly part of the management team. Was he in the room at the infamous meeting? IIRC he was but was essentially cleared because he was under the impression it was being handled and was basically bottom of the rung. That said it does make me a a little uncomfortable.

Edit: Apparently he wasn’t involved in any way. My recollection was wrong, I think I’m getting him mixed up with the AGM.

The drafting of Mailloux was dumbass at best.

Now you’ve reminded me I’m not so happy.

Kings Fans: OMG Organization is screwed, old boys club, everyone has connections to the playing club etc etc....

Also Kings Fans: OMG they hired someone outside the organization, WHY??? He sucks!!! etc....

Sorry I'm just laughing my ass off at those of you who want it both ways.....

Having said this, doesn't read much of anything at all, who knows what it's for, what he will advise on, as far as the drafting of Mailloux, considering the OHL cleared him to return to play, seems like really really good foresight into a kid that made a stupid ass mistake, owned up to it, and did what he needed to to move past it....

He had NOTHING to do with the Kyle Beach things, he was a scout at time and was probably at the Memorial Cup scouting.
Don’t forget a dicton, you’re never as bad as people says even more in market like MTL and you’re not as good as people says

Sorry guys, my old roommate hated losing Solomon and now absolutely hates this. Luckily your prospect pool is absolutely loaded.

Robitaille, Blake, Bergevin are all very close (along with) Brisson. Check the Montreal board and the thread discussing it.

While he's an outside hire, it reeks of cronyism.

Though again you do a great job aggressively missing the point and looking foolish as you try to take pot shots at others.

Not to mention the brain dead mentality that wanting outside hires means ANY outside hire is good, even if it’s a rotten potato.

Don’t take to seriously what is said on the Habs board, we could have Doug Armstrong/Steve Yzerman/Julien Brisebois and after 10 yrs being GM in MTL, they would be the worst executive in the league. He got weakness like his vision of building a team, but he’s a great evaluator/eye for talent and in an Advisor role he could be helpful. He was name 3x for GM of the year (vote by other GM) when he was with us

I don't have a problem with an executive who has weaknesses.

I do have a problem with executives who are okay with being scummy human beings from time to time and being brought in because he's buddies with another executive.
