Not expecting anything Earth shattering with the Kings. It just isn't in their DNA. It will be a lot of talk but at the end of the day, they will probably be shopping or trading in the BOGO bin.

Here's how I make sense of the interest in Danault.

The Kings have very little experience and are weak defensively down the middle after Kopitar. After #11, their most experienced guys down the middle are who? Lizotte? Vilardi? So in that sense, I can see why Danault would be a fit.

That said, how long do they need him here for? If this is their Handzus like signing, Lombardi gave him four years. After those four years were up, the Kings made a significant upgrade in getting Mike Richards. Danault can also slide down to be the #3 center if and when Byfield can take over one of the top two center roles.

What I like about Danault is that generally as players age, their defense remains consistently strong. It's obviously no guarantee, but even on a four or five year deal, he should remain a premier third line shutdown center. If we can sign him for less than 5x5, I think it would be a good deal.
