Well all I can read about him is that he works really hard, plays all three positions to varying success, and finishes his checks off the strength of his intense forechecking. Sounds like Tocchet will love him, and honestly fits the bill of other guys that have had success in the organization over the past few years.

I've always liked O'Connor's game in Pittsburgh......watched him closely and he was really noticeable any time the Canucks made a trip to Pittsburgh.

Remember thinking that he's kind of forward who'd look good in a depth role. Hockey DB lists him at 6'4" and 209. But what stands out are his wheels for such a big guy.

Let's face it, after Joshua and Sherwood, the Canucks are really bereft of physical forwards who can win puck battles along the wall. I suspect the Canucks pro scouting staff has been targeting him for awhile.

how fast is he? be a good addition to add more "speed" to the bottom 6. the team is hella slow. sherwood is alright debrusk too.

DoC has tremoundous wheels, but the biggest thing as a pens fan that I loved was that he never quits, he never gives up on a game or a shift really. You could see the vets around him go into a shell sometimes and he was one of the spark plugs to keep things going. That said, if he can some how learn how to captialize on the chances his legs give him he's a a fringe top 6 player, last season he was passable as crosby's winger and because of his not giving up attitude gave some life to that line and was part of why the penguins played better down the stretch run imo. worst case you have a player who won't quit, is fast, is big and has a hard time finishing the chances his legs create, but can fill in on a top line and not look out of place. He actually gel'd fairly well with Crosby last season. best case he takes another step and you have a tweener 2nd/3rd liner.

Never quits is great to hear if Rutherford/Allvin really want a culture change. Guys like Hughes, Garland, Sherwood, Blueger and O’Connor having that mentality should be contagious

Pens fan here - as mentioned by others DOC’s best traits are his size, speed, and work ethic. Straight line player. Strong skating strides that he uses to good effect in the offensive cycle game. He is pretty relentless on the forecheck and is willing to chase guys down to force a turnover even at the end of a shift. Will contribute on the PK.

At 26 years old I think he probably is what he is development wise, which is a 3rd liner. He filled in for Bryan Rust last year when there were injuries in the top 6 and was…adequate but not ideal for an extended period of time. Went something like 30+ games without scoring a goal this year. I just don’t think he has the offensive instincts or hands to play in a top 6 scoring role.

Still, DOC has a desirable skill set that every contending team could use and won’t break the bank if he works out and wants to extend with you.

Word is out there that Vegas was really interested in O'Connor. Doesn't surprise me. He's a 'Vegas' kind of player--big, fast and a powerful straight-line skater.

He's the kind of guy very team team can use on its' their and fourth lines.
