I’m sorry but he genuinely looks like a Neanderthal. LOL.
Trade this guy he's going to cause problems in the room, ego too bighe charges $70 for his cameos, which is way too much for a player of his calibre.
Never quits is great to hear if Rutherford/Allvin really want a culture change. Guys like Hughes, Garland, Sherwood, Blueger and O’Connor having that mentality should be contagiousDoC has tremoundous wheels, but the biggest thing as a pens fan that I loved was that he never quits, he never gives up on a game or a shift really. You could see the vets around him go into a shell sometimes and he was one of the spark plugs to keep things going. That said, if he can some how learn how to captialize on the chances his legs give him he's a a fringe top 6 player, last season he was passable as crosby's winger and because of his not giving up attitude gave some life to that line and was part of why the penguins played better down the stretch run imo. worst case you have a player who won't quit, is fast, is big and has a hard time finishing the chances his legs create, but can fill in on a top line and not look out of place. He actually gel'd fairly well with Crosby last season. best case he takes another step and you have a tweener 2nd/3rd liner.
Word is out there that Vegas was really interested in O'Connor. Doesn't surprise me. He's a 'Vegas' kind of player--big, fast and a powerful straight-line skater.Pens fan here - as mentioned by others DOC’s best traits are his size, speed, and work ethic. Straight line player. Strong skating strides that he uses to good effect in the offensive cycle game. He is pretty relentless on the forecheck and is willing to chase guys down to force a turnover even at the end of a shift. Will contribute on the PK.
At 26 years old I think he probably is what he is development wise, which is a 3rd liner. He filled in for Bryan Rust last year when there were injuries in the top 6 and was…adequate but not ideal for an extended period of time. Went something like 30+ games without scoring a goal this year. I just don’t think he has the offensive instincts or hands to play in a top 6 scoring role.
Still, DOC has a desirable skill set that every contending team could use and won’t break the bank if he works out and wants to extend with you.
